Why didn't they just put down 18,000 miles as I requested? I did query this and was told that it didn't make any difference as the car would still get a full service. However, it at least gives me peace of mind to know that its being serviced at a fiat dealer and that I'm not running the risk of loosing the guarantee. Obviously, using an independent garage is another alternative to consider. Anyway, I always run my cars to the ground and so will be keeping this one for at least six years. After three years I plan on doing my own servicing, just as I do with my motorbike. With any luck a Haynes manual for the 500 may be out by then.

You can get it serviced independently and still keep the warranty

Servicing it yourself, whilst saving you money will no doubt cause some more issues come resale time. I would not buy a 3+ year without stamps in the service book and you won't get this by servicing it yourself
