I have just booked my first service for my 500 lounge and it has come in at £228  is this right? Anyone know a ball-park price for the 2nd service so I can start saving now lol :(

You spent ~10k on a car and are quibbling over £200 to keep it properly maintained and ticking over properly? :nutter:

its a perfectly valid question; ignore the silly reply.

does depend on the mileage - if you are eligible for a low mileage service then thats definitely too much...even my abarth is only gonna cost me £140 for that, so yours could be lot less if thats the case.

If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything. Be nice.

Back OT - I've been quoted £160 by my local dealer, Dando's in Chipping Sodbury.
Fair point. But what i've said has been said by others previously and it's a valid point. car ownership is an expensive thing if you want to do it right. Sure you can do an oil change with some Halfords own brand oil and a filter but then you throw the warranty out of the window, you can buy some selenia and a filter online and give it to your garage but a lot of people aren't that bothered.

1.2 has to have its tappets adjusted manually though which is an extra labour cost which 1.4 and 1.4 turbo owners down go through.

I had the first service on my A500 last week, cost £161 for a low mileage service (under 10k), was about £56 in parts the rest was labour.

Not at the first service it shouldn't.
Argh, meant to say "not sure if that needs to be done @ the first service though".

Personally unless my local stealer offers a really good price ours is going to get serviced at a local garage with genuine parts.

Well yes - and why not - I usually payless than this for a full annual service and mot on my Mondeo TDCI with my ever reliable one man , no VAT small garage?

I think they changed its brake pads which caused the additional cost. You may be scammed because it's highly unusual at first service.

Yes, but rightly or wrongly when people go to sell their cars in 3 years time that will count against them in terms of resale. Doesn't bother me as I plan to keep it for a long long time.

I've been quoted nearly £400 for the 1st service on the A500, way too much to pay, nearly as much as my annual insurance! Totally getting done locally for (hopefully) a quarter.....ok a third of the price :D

I would have done 15,000 ish by the time it's due, less than the 18,000 interval but too high for a low mileage service?

Got a Couple of quotes a while back for both services as follows

Car will be 2yrs old and done about 17k. I think I got a low mileage service last year but not sure because it was free and the book just got stamped.
Garage 1 said £290 inc brake fluid for the 36k
Garage 2 said £190 for the 18k
Garage 3 said £136 for low mileage or £414 inc brake fluid for the 36k/yr 2.

Wowsers! The addition of an Alfa gearbox and a turbo really makes a difference to what garages thing they can charge you.

IMHO Abarth have missed out on really penetrating the market by making their cars a bit cheaper to buy and a lot cheaper to run. IMHO of course.

a main dealer in the UK is unlikely to scam you

maybe scam is not the right word but I wouldn't trust them that much. a typical driver is not qualified to tell the difference between a poor condition and a good condition pad, yet you don't get a chance to see it in service. So it's possible for them to change pads even if it's not needed and say "it's for your safety". I'm just saying... if you're aware how harsh you drive your car, you would know if they're needed to be changed or not and order the service what to do accordingly. sometimes they can be extremely overprotective. ;)

I'd say doesn't know/care enough rather than qualified. It's irrelevant trying to quantify how harshly you drive your car, a simple old/new/condition inspection should be enough.
