maybe scam is not the right word but I wouldn't trust them that much. a typical driver is not qualified to tell the difference between a poor condition and a good condition pad, yet you don't get a chance to see it in service. So it's possible for them to change pads even if it's not needed and say "it's for your safety". I'm just saying... if you're aware how harsh you drive your car, you would know if they're needed to be changed or not and order the service what to do accordingly. sometimes they can be extremely overprotective. ;)
Just say when you go into the garage that you don't want any other work carried out on the car other than the service and that they should contact you before carrying out any additional work.

Less likely now that Lythgoe Bolton have gone bust. Good riddance and all that!

Well there are still plenty of other dealers waiting to rip customers off or even rip Fiat off!! my local dealer Arbury is good example of that!!

As ours is coming up to 12 months old went to another main dealer is it has only done 11k they can do the low miles service at £115 but did recommend the 18k service at £159.

Looking to find a good indepent as this isnt me being tight but cannot justify that money for oil air filter and a set of plugs, because that is all they will do at the £159, £115 is Oil and filter change only.

very true - and in fact they dont even do the air filter at 18! its really just oil+filter and plugs.

cheapest quote i ended up getting for my low mileage on my abarth was £140 from research nuneaton - but for just an oil change im not paying that..getting it done locally next week.

for whiners that say 'ooo what about when you sell, wont sell without a full set of dealer stamps' - i say yawn, goodbye whiners.

they changed my spark plugs for annual service at 10k km. they ony cost about 15 pounds though.

dont waste your time on 'low mileage' services, a little used car often needs more attention anyway.

500 first service is available for as low as £99 which is often cheaper than independents/fast fit outlets plus service counter is reset and software updates (for which there are quite a few for the 500) are carried out....expect to pay for these other wise.

You all may or may not be aware but FIAT are currently rating all their dealers on a star rating system, the results of which were supposed to be publicly available this month but have been delayed until March to give dealers more time to sort themselves out. I gather that this is in response to the JD Power survey and others which generally rate the cars okay unlike the dealers who could learn a lot from the Japanese customer service ethos - forgetting the recent unjust media hype.

Our local FIAT dealers closed some years back at the start of the recession and we're expensive and not very good. Our now nearest took me three visits to purchase a couple of litres of the correct gearbox oil.

If you're keeping a car for a long period get you local trustworthy garage to service the car with original equipment standard parts and stamp the service book. They need to be VAT registered though to maintain the warranty. The cars still aren't very complex it's only the emission control which gets tighter and tighter due to Euro compliance.

If you change your car regularly you are caught up the merry go round of main dealer servicing which really can't be avoided and isn't good value for money.

Another way to check on main dealer work done to your car is to ask to view the old parts although this obviously isn't fool proof if the ones provided aren't really from your vehicle.

I love FIATs and have driven them for about thirty years as they are great fun and involving cars to drive. Wish I could say the same for the present dealer provision.

Having my first service done next week, at dealership, cost is £155 . Engine 1.2 mileage is 8k. This sounds in between good and bad from reading this thread. I thought I would give them a punt at it this time around, as no time to do local research and we dont know anyone.
