Why dont 500 drivers wave to eachother?!

I haven't got my car yet but I already know that I won't. I currently own a Mini and same thing some wave (less and less with age though, which I suspect will be the same for the 500) and some don't.

My main point being that we may have bought the same car but it is not necessarily for the same reason(s).
Apart from our cars we may have absolutely nothing in common, we may even hate each other if we were to meet, you could be a chav or a rich woman whose 500 is an accessory second car, you could be a BNP member, a boring accountant, a heavy smoker, a bible basher, a mummy and daddy's girl with a spanking new 500 for first ever car etc for all I know. And even if I'm wrong and we have loads in common the point is we're meeting here and there for half a second, not exactly a life-changing experience. I can't explain, I just don't "feel" the sense of community in my car. I fail to see what I'd get from a wave or a flash, I get a smile at the wheel from my radio or my fave podcasts, not from other drivers.
I'm sorry to say that I am missing that point of a wave. :(

Why should we wave each other and not Fiestas or Corsas owners as well?

And before I get the miserable git tag, I must add that I love nothing more than a good laugh and comedy is my middle name. As a matter of fact my wife sometimes feels she married a complete looney strangling himself of laughter in front of his computer or tv watching x amount of comedies, sometimes for hours and hours......
Still if a fellow 500 owner was to start a chat on a car park about our respective cars I wouldn't diss him/her, I am not that bad you see! ;)

Some of us wave (if the 500 is driven by a pretty lady I may even crack a smile), and I'm in the Bristol area.

Oh....time for the gratuitous pics too (any excuse)

Owning an OLD Alfa, I've been waving at other Alfa's for years, but the people who wave back has really dwindled (unless they too are driving a really old spider or coupe). When I 1st got the fiat 2 years ago, every other 500 driver (there weren't many then) seemed to wave like a loon on passing and this got me into doing it in the Fiat too, seems less people wave back now the car is more common. Still which ever car I'm in a returned wave brings on a big smile that lasts a few mins (longer if I'm not alone in the car):D

Rob, I guess you had to answer that one a few times but I joined the forum only relatively recently: your left-hand drive, is it because you couldn't wait for the UK dealers to have the 500 (Since I noticed it is one of the rarer 07 reg) or is it that you prefer driving that side? :)

I'm not into the sporty look (of any car for that matter) yet I ike your white wheels! (y)

yes i was actually looking for a LHD car, prefer to drive them.
LHD makes life a lot easier when driving on the continent and you get a better view of corners on track. also am very right handed so gearchanges are easier for me!

the car was a grey import by the ttcentre and bought by North One television for Fifth Gear TV show. the competition winner sold it on eBay and i was the lucky bidder (y)

I took delivery in March 2008 so just after the UK launch

OK then, I DO recognize your car.... ;)

Funny that, I'm a frenchman yet I'd rather drive with a RHD 'cause........ I'm very left handed! :)
Having said that I've gone all automatic for the past two years.
15 years ago I took my first car (a LHD VW Polo ) and drove all around the UK (to visit as many football grounds as possible :p) so yeah I know how tricky it can be having the steering wheel on the "wrong" side.

Hi Gabriella, more gratuitous porn for you!

I wave at other 500s too
