General 2 year Fiat warranty + 1 year dealer warranty

My dealer paid the 27 quid to have the third year warranty transferred to us. Our car was bought as a pre-reg, two months old with about ten miles on the clock. Approaching the end of year two of ownership I asked them about the third year and they did it as I spoke to them, got the letter in a week or so later.
 
Will see what happens but if needs be I'll be putting in an official written complaint to Fiat as the whole process so far has been pathetic.

IMO this third year insurance-backed warranty nonsense is pathetic, given that most competing cars come with a full transferable manufacturers warranty for at least the first three years.

and mind you an audi feels much more solid than a fiat after 100,000 kms so fiat needs a longer warranty period more than most manufacturers because their parts are a joke! if i had a 3 year warranty they would have fixed the suspension for free!

Clearly I have no idea what the warranty arrangements for Fiat are in Greece, but I'm guessing that if the suspension failed on a 500 during the 3rd year warranty phase, Fiat would cough up. I only say that because if they are prepared to replace door handles and the entire boot handle incorporating micro switch and of course electric steering motors as was done on our old POP during year three, then replacing shocks/springs etc, should be a given.

My issue particularly with the shock replacement, is the fact I believe some owners have had just one failed shock replaced, which is utterly nuts because they should always be replaced in pairs, same with coil springs. If a dealer told me they were only going to replace one shock, I'd tell 'em where to shove it and do the job myself and replace them as a pair.

Fiat in Greece is 2 years warranty 60000 km
 
An update for you. Spoke to Car Care Plan today and it would appear the invoice is a mistake and has been issued in error to me. They believe the amount should have been charged to the dealer (which is exactly what the dealer has always stated).

Have now received a "validation certificate" from Car Care Plan by email which is apparently confirmation their end that the warranty is now registered.

However, the information I have in my service booklet regarding the third year warranty doesn't seem to tally with the page numbers that CCP have got. This may not actually matter, but I am going to ask Fiat to confirm in writing as part of a general written complaint.

Got to say though - what an utterly depressing experience this has been. All for a simple administrative task too (n)

I'm just confused about this 'Car Care Plan' thing. Until I'd seen it on here, I'd never heard of it before. As I stated in an earlier post, nothing on the official Fiat paperwork I've had issued even mentions anything about 'Car Care Plan'. As I've mentioned, the 3rd year paperwork has been issued directly from Fiat HQ in Slough just under a year ago, so where 'Car Care Plan' comes into it, I have no idea.

As for dealing with Fiat concerning the 3rd year warranty, I remember the very long wait we had when we paid for the transfer of the third year warranty on our old POP from Fiat Fleet. It took weeks and Fiat CS were appallingly lack lustre in both their response and attitude when I contacted them. Good luck with them!
 
Just to confuse things even more, looking at the FIAT website it seems that at sometime the warranty provision for new FIATs has changed- it's now 3 years, all at the same level of cover.

From the same page:

"In addition to the standard manufacturers 24 month warranty UK customers also benefit from a further 12 month dealer warranty the third-year dealer warranty enjoys the same level of cover as the two year warranty and enjoys the same unlimited mileage."

I believe this differs from the "historical" dealer warranty in two ways: i) Previously it was a substantially reduced level of cover ii) IIRC there was a mileage restriction-60k?

So in spite of the level of cover being the same & the mileage restriction removed, it's still an insurance-backed third year warranty which presumably will have to be transferred (no doubt with some cost & hassle) if the car is sold before the end of the term.

Call me a cynic, but something tells me that the process for warranty authorisation will not be the same in year three (n). Expect more hassle with loss adjusters claiming 'fair wear and tear' on what ought to be covered items (door handles, for example).

Heck, folks have even had problems getting stuff fixed in year two (in-car audio, which includes Blue&Me, comes to mind).

IMO Fiat still needs to do better with its warranty to keep up with the competition.

The Blue&Me on my first Grande Punto packed in early into year two, Fiat were not interested. I got Auto Express involved, got my photo and my story published, Fiat still did not give a toss. Wanted £1000 to fix it!!!
Bought a convergence unit from a scrappy on eBay for 40 quid and fixed it myself.

I often have a nose at the Fiat UK Facebook page, and there was a recent comment by someone who appeared to work for a Fiat dealer who basically said that the warranty was now a three year one.

Would anyone who has bought a new 500 in the last couple of months be able to confirm if that is the case? Or are we still looking at the same wording as per zanes' post back in October?

i still think the worldwide warranty is only 2 years.
 
is that 3 years from order time or 3 years from when you actually receive the car = )

Luckily it is from when first registered
If you get a "demo" model it is from the rego date not when you bought it though
Obviously a "new" car off the lot or to special order is only registered when you pay the deposit pending a timely pick up so you get the full 3 years (y)
