I seem to have a problem with my rear windscreen washer... i flick the stalk to set if off and all i get is a strange whirring sound coming from the front. The front window washer works perfectly fine. Is this something i can possibly fix? i haven't got a clue where to look for anything that is loose or broken so if anyone has any tips it would help!

Thanks!

yes but best letting the dealer fix under warranty

Same with my 1.4 Sport. Since all the cold weather my rear washer makes the motor pump noise but no fluid comes out.

Tried it while the car was parked on my drive yesterday and all the fluid is dripping out under the car! Perhaps the frost / ice has dislodged the pipe/connector.

Sounds like washers in general are problematic with Fiats!:)

It's going into the garage on saturday anyway so I'll get them to fix it. Another trip to sort out the milage light which irregularly flashes (if I stop and turn it off when I start it up again it's stopped) Apparently I need an ECU upgrade (although at it's first service (May 09) I had to wait to have a new ECU unit as it failed to upgrade properly)

I am taking it to get looked at tomorrow, one thing i noticed last night... i tried the rear windscreen washer and got the usual strange noise from the front and no water coming out the back, when i got out of the car i could hear what seemed like water dripping onto something very hot under the bonnet! Seems like rather than going to the back screen its just spewing out all over the engine?

I had the same problem, i would get out of the car on a journey and there was water dripping onto the exhaust. Took it to the dealer and they quickly sorted it out for me :)

Apparently a broken washer is not something that can be fixed on a saturday morning so my car is booked in to have it looked at (whilst replacing the blue&me mic that doesn't work)

One thing I noticed when checking again, the water is dripping through the engine out under passenger side also. With the bonnet up I tried the rear washer and the water came out of the rubber tubing running alongside the top of the engine bay (parallel to windscreen). Seems like the rubber tubing has a complete tear.

The garage said this wouldn't be covered by warranty yet my car is only 20 months old?!

Have other people had this problem fixed under their warranty?

thanks!

That's very bad, it's a fault with the car that hasn't been caused through any fault of your own or wear and tear. Did they give you a reason for not carrying it out as warranty work?

I would get them to put this in writing as to why they feel that this isnt a warranty item. They may be implying that you havent used the correct washer mixture in the cold weather and it froze and split when u tried to operate it.

my local dealer is fixing mine under warranty, i took it in on saturday but they had to order in parts so it should be fixed next saturday. Same prob as mare that when rear washers are turned on it just comes out into the engine rather than rear windows

Sorry I don't visit here every day, but thanks for the info and advice, I'll definitely be trying to get the garage to cover this on warranty as I've always used a washer fluid +water mix. Perhaps it may not have been strong enough solution to cope with the -7 we had at the start of the year though...

It's going in on the 20 Feb so hopefully they should fix it!

I have also had a problem with our 08 Fiat 500 rear washer. I could hear the pump but no water out of the jet. I thought it was blocked with road dirt but on further inspection I found a loose pipe under the plastic cover at the bottom of the windscreen. If you have this problem it is an easy fix. Take off the black caps off the wiper nuts, undo the nuts and remove the wiper arms. Now remove the 3 plastic screws securing the cover that goes right across the bottom of the windscreen. If you look under the windscreen in the center of the car you will see a small black pipe with a piece of copper pipe then another short length of rubber pipe. this is where the washer water squirts from every time you use the rear washer. Now look for another piece of ribbed plastic pipe that passes through the bulkhead (metal that separates the cabin from the engine compartment). Push them both together as far as you can. Try the washer to make sure it works. It may take a while for the water to fill the pipes again. Hopefully you have success and you can replace everything.:D

I have also had a problem ... and you can replace everything.:D

Hikilu

Thank you so much for this post. I had the exact problem with my wifes 500 1.4 sport and within 20 mins, following your post, had it sorted.

Not only that but, noted that the two drains were full of silt and had blocked, and that the area under this channel had about an inch of water sloshing around in it.

Not only did we solve the non working rear washer, but I feel that we have averted a future major corrosion issue.

Forum knowledge at its best! Thank you!

does anyone know doblo MPV rear washer pipe route, pump trying but no sign of water coming out anywhere, so presume pipe blocked.
