General servicing costs

General servicing costs

To drag this back on topic.

2nd year service tomorrow, quoted £220 as the standard price, less discount, they are quiet.

Otherwise i would need someone with examiner clone as my MTD needs the oil change light zeroed. The dealer will do that included. I also need a couple of items dealt with under warranty.

I've not had it confirmed that the Ford Examiner clone will speak to the Fiat, so I am happy to use my supplying dealer at this time.

Cheers

Is that the 36k service or did you have the low mileage last year its the 18k? Not a bad price
Cheers

as others have said - thats not even really a service, you're paying that for an oil and filter change and a cursory checkover...so even that isnt value for money.

and yep, when you get to the 2nd year service wait for the sky high price for the same thing, plus spark plugs and brake fluid.

comedy pricing from your friendly fiat dealers.

I'll just correct you if I may!

1st service £126 (£116 diesel)
2nd service £146 (£166 diesel)
3rd service £126 (£116 diesel)

not exactly going to break the bank with those prices.....

Suzisue (or anyone else) if your ever north of the border P.M. me and i'll arrange it so you can see exactly whats involved in a service, parts used/items checked (including those not on the service sheet) examiner work / roadtesting etc

sorry but they are not genuine prices. that's all there is to be said.

are you a fiat apologist in disguise?

But read the small print, no pollen filter changed, there's a £39 charge for that. One of my local Fiat service agents (Harry Dando's) Charges £160 for the full 18month service inc pollen filter.

May sound silly, but if the pollen filter is a requirement of the service, then why is it not included in the Arnold prices already?

Well to be fair they're not going to disallow any warranty claims for the pollen filter so it's not 100% necessary although as an asthmatic I would of course do it.

Cheers for all the responses.

I can face those charges I was worried about hitting £300 for each service.

Also stuff like the oil change etc I will probably do on my own.

However, it does say prices only valid till Dec 2009 I wonder what they are now!

Probably cheaper. Garages are a bit quiet at the moment, negotiate.

Rang a couple of garages today as my car will be 2yrs old and done about 17k. I think I got a low mileage service last year but not sure because it was free and the book just got stamped.
Garage 1 said £290 inc brake fluid for the 36k
Garage 2 said £190 for the 18k
Garage 3 said £136 for low mileage or £414 inc brake fluid for the 36k/yr 2.

Anyone any ideas what service it needs?

Dealers say different things. One said if it has had 18k last year it can have the low mileage but then do you get the 36k at year 3 or do you just have an 18k at year 3 ( bearing in mind my car has the early schedule i.e every year and has A/C filter)

I thought £290 was a very good price for the 36k inc brake fluid.

Because not all 500's have A/C

Exactly, when I worked for a certain dealership (non-Fiat) pollen filters were always fitted at a fair expense to the customer who had no idea it wasn't actually needed as they never had aircon!

Good solid advice, quote the prices from other garages (or from here) and come to mutual price.

Ok, rang my usual garage and they recommend the 36k at 2years because it had the low mileage at year 1. Price £198 +£40 for brake fluid + £45 pollen filter. I don't think £283 is bad for a major service including genuine oil and parts and brake fluid change. Gives everyone a idea of the prices.

Personally, I think £283 is expensive for a major service on a small car.

£283 would be more expensive, than any manufacturer servicing of any of cars - rover, vauxhall, suzuki grand vitara, golf

My local Vw wanted £150 for just the oil service and close to £300 for inspection service without brake fluid on a 7yr old golf. Surely there is no difference between sa small car and mediumish size car except quantity of oil. I am not saying its cheap but not too bad considering its less than 3years old and main dealer servicing is usually more for cars of this age.
