this might be better suited to the 'snow' threads, but isnt only about that-

while driving on the ice/snow, and tryin to accelerate, in what should normally provoke manic wheelspin, the car retained grip...and the revs refused to rise...then when pressing harder on the accelerator, revs rose slightly, but still gripped....on iced snow....

felt very like traction control....like the power had been turned down...actually felt weird....almost like the throttle was disconnected!...or much 'softer'

do i have any form of it on my 500 1.2 s/s?..or anything that would work like it in the engine management system?...(hence seperate thread)

it just really intrigued me how the car was behaving...and in more than one location...

Yes, that's a quite normal behavior. It's the ASR kicking in, that prevents loads of wheelspin. You can (if you will) turn it off, to see the difference. The button is located right under your climatecontrol. ASR is also a part of ESP.

You would have had to have ordered that on a 1.2 though as an option, in which case I guess you would know you have it...

So ESP is standard with start/stop?

If you have a button labelled "ASR off" on the centre console near the rear window heater switch you have ESP/ASR

well, thats the thing....i dont think i have ASR, or ESP...which is why i asked....no options on my 500 for stability...

but..still seemingly cutting power ...

.im sure i read somewhere on here that engine management systems can react to traction info....

When mine kicks the TC in I get a little yellow ! with a curved arrow around it flashing, and it seems to rev limit to 2750 (which I suspect is just a spurious effect of the system regulating power/fuelling)

I thought ASR was standard on all cars and can be turned off, but ESP is optional and can't be turned off?

I have TTC, ASR and ESP on the Abarth, try living with that!

The configurator doesn't list ASR on the base pop, just EBD and ABS although it could be talking crud again....

From a technical stand point (my work involves using sensors like those in the ESP system for other purposes) ESP is an absolute stunning piece of work.

The 1.2 Pop relies on the owner being a driving God to control that raw power in the snow!!!!!

All of the Lounge models in Denmark have ESP as standard. And yes, it really is a fantastic system

Brilliant Mark!

2nd gear in the 1.2 and you can go almost anywhere without sliding too badly. I've not experienced anything like this on the snow though, other than gaining and losing grip as I drive over patches of ice underneath the snow.

The 1.2 and 1.4 models will be much better on snow thanks to the narrower tyres etc. It took me half an hour to get out the drive yesterday, I've concluded that the Abarth is pretty crap in the snow/ice, with or without TTC! Brothers Stilo isn't much better (same width tyres) we got stuck in the middle of nowhere yesterday on a steep hill, had to build a road of bracken to bail us out, which works very well btw, just watch out, it's sharp!

No traction control, stability or any of that nonsense on our 1.2 and I have had no problems with traction on the ice and snow other than when I was out for a play.......

I had hoped to have my winter tyres on by now but haven't got around to it and I suspect stock will now be low and prices high. Anyway the car has been performing pretty well on its standard tyres and certainly better than I had expected.

We do have ABS which is a PITA but as its a feature of all cars these days I have to put up with it. It seems to work reasonably well on the Fiat.

mytyres.co.uk seem to have stock. The tyres I ordered on Saturday have been dispatched today from Germany so we'll see when they arrive.
