General A good deal?

Spotted this on Auto trader, not far from me. Thought all things considered, VAT being the main issue for future orders, this was a good deal for somebody looking for a new 500, however i am not sure of the cost of a new Pop. Bit suspicious, what do you think guys and gals?

Massive autotrader link

Fantastic price ... but whatever will you do with your Abarth?

You will probably be able to buy and sell it on for a small profit too

Car looks to be based in Llanfairfechan if the postcode they've entered is correct. It's a slaters car. My guess would be that the person has bought it on scrappage and either just doesn't want it, can't afford it OR my bet would be on they've bought it on scrappage and obviously paid a lot less than they're selling it for and just want to make a quick bit of cash.

Mileage can't be 10 miles though because it's 18 miles from Abergele to Llanfairfechan! :p

Maybe it was delivered? Still cheap though, i mean it has alloys/chrome etc. How much do you think i could sell it for?

EDIT: The price with these options on the fiat website is £9880

You might get someone wary though if the car already has 2 owners on the logbook? Would hate for you to get burnt that's all :)

Looks to good to be true and usually that means it doesnt exist!! Bet the cars owner is not in the country and the car will be shipped to your door for free if you pay for it by a secure holding method ;)

I doubt it. Why bother to invent a pop? Why not make it a lounge or a sport and liberate the person of more money.

True!! usually on higher models so this one may not be a scam all though the ship the car to you scam has been reported on cars as low as £500 in value!!, what makes thi iffy is if they took that back to the dealers it came from they would get there arm wripped off for a buy back at that price as a main stealer could easily turn that back around with a grand profit.

Perhaps the dealer wasn't going to give this person an offer they felt was fair? Perhaps BERR doesn't allow dealers to buy back the cars so soon? If anyone is really interested all you need to do is go for a look, check the VIN and engine numbers and then do the whole text check thing and make sure it's HPI clear etc etc and the VIN and engine numbers are correct.

If it were a pre-reg too, then the dealer would count as the 1st owner, so potentially, if i bought it to sell it on, whoever bought if off me would be the 4th owners on a Brand new car! Maybe it's worth a call. Is it worth spending that much to make £500 to £1000 though? Bad time to sell a car at the moment. I could store it until the summer, then flog it?

I doubt slaters would have pre-reg'd it because they've been able to sell their used 500's uber quick. Storing the car till summer would be silly, a big chunk of the warranty will be gone, it'll be an old reg etc etc etc.

Its a alot of investment for not alot of gain. If you want £500, and sell it for around £9000 - it will save someone £1000, but they would have wanted to go through the purchase experience themselves.

However if someone is buying it for themselves, it will be worthwhile (a HPI check should be mandatory)

Thats been on Autotrader a fair time now. if you buy it you would find it impossible to sell for more than that price. have you ever tried to sell a car on autotrader that is less than a year old and more than £5k? Unless your a trader its very difficult and people want to offer you stupid money.

I bought one from Autotrader than was 1 year old and more than 5k. But I only searched for traders. only reason is because with a private seller I would factor in the cost of AA mechanical checks before handing over hard earned cash.

Maybe another reason why its difficult is that you can not arrange finance with a private seller

and another reason if the seller has finance on it, and needs your money to clear it off, it gets even more complicated, and you have to factor in an HPI check as well, although I think the AA check might include this.

if the car really does have delivery mileage only I wouldn't bother getting it mechanically checked. You'd drive it and check it to see it's not been driven into a kerb or anything but I wouldn't waste the money on a mechanical check.

Probably not worth while then, it's a lot of dosh to part with for little profit, plus if it doesn't sell then i'm £8500 out of pocket for a while! I've bought/sold cars in the past but never made more than £400 and never been stuck with a car more than 3 weeks!
