Other than the start and stop are there any other changes to the 500 which will help me feel better about forking out an extra £600? Does the latest spec include the anti rollbar suspension on the 1.2 pop for instance?

Also any idea of latest delivery times being quoted at the moment?
Thanks

Nick

Why is it that my wife's choice of spec seems to increase on a daily basis?

Yup.

Anywhere between 12 and 14 weeks, unless you stumble on a dealer (such as my good self), who had the foresight to order some 2009 model year Pops, which are arriving within the week and don't have the start stop gubbins, and are £400 cheaper than current list price.
Thanks

I can only assume that your wife is a woman. And therefore part bloodsucker.

Hope this helps matey. If you are interested in one of my stock cars, PM me or call 01902 544200 tomorrow, ask for Matt.

not related but i wonder where does the "asr off" button go in 2010 models. i saw some pictures which start&stop button placed where "asr off" button is in my 1.4 sport.

Thats not a currently available engine, nor will it be available for around six months at least.

It will be very interesting, just don't want to confuse the original poster with information that isn't correct.

I know it's not currently available, but it IS coming this year. It is interesting to have the details of the power outputs.

I can't see Fiat running the 'old' four cylinders and the new twins concurrently; not for very long anyway. I'd guess that within a year of launch ALL the lower output small Fiats will carry the 0.9 twin.

Agreed, but the original poster asked for the differences between 2009 and 2010 model years. I guess the new twin cylinder engines will be either MY2010.5 or MY2011.

True, but information is always useful, and I'm sure he'd like to know what's coming, even if it is a long way off.

I doubt many people will hold off buying for the new engine; many will be suspicious as it isn't proven, and so will prefer to stick with the known quantity.

I'll bet that's the thought process salespeople will encourage anyway ;)

I just bought a 1.2 Lounge, and im glad a did. I couldnt stand to wait atleast a half year, and I got my thought about having a 2 cylindre engine. Guessing that it will be more noisy than the current engines.

I am very impressed with the 1.2 8v engine in my lounge. It revs very smoothly and seems to punch above its weight. I'd be a little suspicious of a 2 cyl replacement which has a lower power output. The 2 cyl engine is probably going to be just fine, but I like the proven track record of the engine in my car.

Maybe with the new engines, the older ones resale values will drop slightly as people gradually start purchasing the new engines.

I have a 1.2, and I quite like it - although I like the 0.9 just because its so small

It weighs less so the power to weight ratio should be pretty similar to the 1.2 and from the single driving report I have read the turbo at least is very smooth. Fiat has worked hard on the counterbalancing.

The twin has been under development for years and years, so the bugs should be sorted. Most new buyers won't even know what's under the bonnet anyway since most punters buy the 500 for looks and fashion. I reckon the residuals will continue to hold up well and may even improve if the new engine gets excellent reviews, because the positivity will boost the old cars' appeal too.

Sorry have not been on for a few days but would like to thank all for the really helpful responses.

We are now (some may say at last....) ready to order a car as I want the scrappage allowance but for many reasons I would like to take it to the wire as dont really want the new car until April/May.

One of my staff has a very close connection with a dealer so feel duty bound to go there - otherwise I would have been very happy to use one of the ever helpful posters here.

Just one quick spec question is are the optional colour coded mirrors heated as opposed to standard black Pop ones?

Thanks again

Nick

Yes they are, the chrome ones are a dealer fit accessory and therefore are not.

Not a problem where you buy your car from as long as you are happy!
