Just ordered 500C 1.3 Diesel 95 BHP ( New Engine ) Lounge with paint option, leather, side rubbing strip and black stripe.

£17,330!

Blimey! That makes the Mazda MX5 I've recently bought look like an absolute bargain!

I didn't pay much more for a fully convertible Rwd sports car, with heated leather seats, climate control, 6CD BOSE 7 speaker sound system, Bluetooth and ESP all as standard.

The 2.0? With hard or soft top roof? My girlfriend is tempted by the hard top one with the 2.0 and 6 speed.

2.0 Sport Tech, 6 speed box. I chose the soft top, as I prefer them to the hard top. Brilliant car. Drove down to Italy, over the Alps about a month after I collected it. A fantastic trip.

A bit off topic, but I've just configured a 500C on the Fiat website, i gave it everything the Abarth has (well, not quite, just a few of the luxuries and gadgets) and it came to, wait for it:

£19,155

Now forgive me for saying this, but isn't that taking the **** a little considering an Abarth 500 could have been had just a few months ago for £13,500, that's around £5600 less than the car i just configured! :nutter:

And if you look at things the way Maxi does i.e. "Panda in a frock" etc, then almost £20,000 for a topless version of a car that was selling for £4995 a few months ago seems little over the top to me! Anybody else agree?

Yikes. That's insane money. Truly insane money for 500.

Bargain!!

Cars are getting pretty pricey - you should see how much a average spec Astra/Focus/Mondeo costs.

Hell .. even the Fiesta has gone up £3000 in one year

Problem is the pound as a currency is screwed especially against the euro!! which mean car prices are going through the roof !! think back to 3 years ago £1 equalled 1.4 euro ie a 14000 euro car would cost £10000 now as its almost £1 to 1 euro a car that cost 14000 euro in europe will cost £14000 in the uk!!

Now whos wishing we had joined the Euro a few short years ago!!

We bought a new Volvo XC90 3 months ago and managed to get 1/4 off the list price... but I guess that was then... and its a big car and 4 wheel drive which are not popular now (apart when you have 16in of snow ;))

There are deals to be had on most 4x4 - as the eco-warriors have decided they are bad, they are less 'desirable'

Earlier this year, I was looking round car supermarkets, and whereas once they had 20-30 4x4 cars - most only had 3-4. This was the same, around the country as I took a day out on a whistlestop tour trying to track some down.

Smaller, and more economical cars are definately very popular and desirable now. The low tax, cheap running costs and good insurance pushing many people in that direction.

4x4s are bad, m'kay? If you buy 4x4s you're bad. :D
