same as the panda? drivers footwell, behind the steering rack? might have 2 5.5mm bolts holding a very thin end cap on, it's a right old bugger to change in the panda, maybe it improved for the 500.....

Yep, found it.

Just to the left of the clutch pedal. End cap pops off without any screws, however, the new one was a real bitch to get in, got stuck in halfway so I thought take it out & start again, which ripped the new one and now I have given in.

I'm going to book it in for a service and they can do it, I just can't be bothered.

Makes you kinda wish you had a left hooker like Rob.

I'm doing my pollen filter today. In the picture below, is this the cover, behind which the pollen filter hides?

(This is a UK car, drivers footwell for info)

Turtle? Where is the pic? I was wondering the same and i wanted to find out the exact place it is.

Photo was working OK for me, but i've uploaded it again :p

I'm not even 100% it's even the heater box i've photographed. The bit I have highlighted with the arrow is the only bit that looks like it comes off, and even then I think i'd need to lever it off with a flat-blade screwdriver.

Hopefully someone can clear it up so I can go back out and brave the rain to get the job done! :slayer:

Pollen filter changed! Thank you RUI for the reassurance on where the filter is actually located. (y)

On a UK car, it's located in the drivers footwell. There is 1 T25 Torx screw to remove, and 2 T30's which will allow you to (carefully) pull off the trim, pictured below. The filter is located behind the panel which I have marked with a green arrow in the pic in my previous reply. The best way to get it off is just to get your hand up and pull it towards you.

To get the filter out, I just about got my thumb and index finger in and prised it out, although you could use pliers.

To get the filter back in - persevere. I went above the clutch pedal and put the bottom in, and forced the top in and then straightened it up. It's hard to describe but just be patient and use a bit of common sense.

Not a 5 min job as I anticipated, but certainly a job that most owners should be capable of doing.

Here is the filer I removed:

It wasn't Lancia/FIAT/Alfa part - it was marked "Denso", so I suppose it's been changed at some stage in the 25K the car had covered before I bought it. I got a genuine part on eBay for £8 delivered for info, and it is snow white in colour to give you an idea of just how bad the one I removed is.

Turtle - a great post! Could you "donate" it to the guides section so that all may admire your diagram and photo when they have to do this particular task?

I would second that.(y)

Before I passed on the FW I picked up the Pollen filter that was 'missed' on the service. When I was paying for the 'service' the garage said that they would put it in for me - a 3 minute job. Well - when I went back to collect it they said it was a 45 minute job and withdrew the offer of doing it saying that it was 'easy enough' to do and all you have to do was remove a 'cover' & it was either in the passenger or driver's footwell. I posted on the 'guide' to the new owner after seeing the state of your one since I had given her the new one when I 'handed' it over.

Thanks for the info. It is really a 45 min job and the best way to insert the filter is by holding the clutch pedal down with the left hand and inserting the filter with the right. Happy New Year to all.

10 mins tops, 45 if you stop for lunch half way through.

Really good information... I have noted it down as I have wondered myself where this bad boy was located.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but changed my pollen filter today. All previous posts and YouTube vids say one T25 bolt to remove then take away the panel. On my 2014 500S there are an additional two much larger 5mm Allen bolts holding the panel on. Seems to be some extra strengthening for the foot support. Still agree with everyone else about the poor design and lack of access to the little hatch.

Another job done though, plugs changed too but no issues with that task.
