RTFM there is a list of approved tyres sizes in there (y)

Thanks for that. A lot of use. Its amazing how unhelpful some people can be.

I know .. why doesn't everyone just read the manual, never ask for other peoples opinions and then we can just close down the forums.

Take a chill pill!

Rob's not wrong - all the tyre sizes are listed in the manual - which I'm guessing you have. Why not read it? Unless you want Rob to go out to his car, get his manual and spend time typing it up so you can read it here?

In fact, why don't you get your manual from your car, and type the sizes up here so other people in your position don't have to bother reading their manual?

To be fair, if someone isn't as "au fait" with cars as you two there is nothing in the manual AFAIK that gives the rolling radius of each wheel and tyre combo.

Therefore, if you are not fortunate enough to have both types to hand you are unable to draw a chalk line on each to be able to compare them.

FWIW, I thought the question was valid and that is why I decided to answer it.

If someone isn't "au fait" with cars perhaps it's best to point them to an approved list of wheel and tyre sizes rather than giving them a radius and confusing them further.

:)

I didn't give him a radius though did I? I explained that they were the same for both types of wheel & tyre combinations and therefore it wasn't necessary to have the speedo recalibrated which was the original concern.

I can't see how my answer would confuse anybody.

But you didn't give them the sizes - saying 15" wheels are the same radius as 14" wheels because the tyres compensate in sidewall height is mis-leading - as they might go and buy 15s with 195/50R15 tyres which may not be the correct size for a 500 compared to the 14" wheels.

Saying "buy a set of one of the sizes listed in the manual" removes the posibility of error.

do you know whether the official fiat 500 15" alloys will swap easily with the 14" steel wheels.

Do you not have to get speedo re-calibrated?

Maybe we will have to differ on how each of us interpreted the posters question as I understood it to be about replacing the standard Fiat 14" wheels and tyres with the official 15" wheels and tyres.

As you point out it is quite possible that should he source the wheels and tyres separately he could mistakenly buy the wrong tyres.

Hopefully, now, the poster is fully informed but just in case there is any confusion;

14" - use 65 aspect ratio (height/width) tyres
15" - use 55 aspect ratio (height/width) tyres
16" - use 45 aspect ratio (height/width) tyres

why on earth would you want 14" steelies? unless fiat changed the PCD for the 500, there's a ton of retro alloys out there from fiat/lancia/alfa that will fit, and probably look pretty good under new metalwork. and tyres are pretty cheap, esp when someone from bravo/a pointed out they use that size a lot over there.
