Since I've had my 500 I've noticed that the windscreen and side windows get really steamed up and it seems to take a lot longer than my old car to demist. When using the "blowers" I always get left with a triangle in the middle of the window that takes forever to clear.
Since the cold weather has kicked I am now finding that I am getting ice on the inside of the windscreen and it's really hard to clear. Yesterday when temperatures were really cold after about 15 mins of driving along I started to get dripped on from above and when I stopped to investigate the whole of the sunroof was also iced up and therefore melting over me and my passenger!
Does anyone else find that their 500 is particularly "misty" and has anyone experienced the ice on the inside?
I'm not sure if it's normal or if I have something wrong with the car? I've tried closing the vents before I leave the car at night and I clear the mist with the aircon.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Many thanks :)

T16er, you seem to be doing the correct procedure, just a couple of questions.

1) Even though you are using the A/C which should get rid of the moisture are your settings on recirculatory or fresh air?

2) Do you leave any wet items such as umbrellas in the car?

3) Are there any patches of wet in the carpets?

Sorry! that was three questions before notts comes along to point it out.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions :) Grimwau, I normally have the A/C on fresh air should I switch it to recirculatory? I do try not to leave wet things in the car but you can't help the mats getting wet when it's been snowing I guess. I didin't have this problem last year in my old car and I used it in the snow we had in the Spring.
The car litter tray idea sounds interesting! I'll give that a try - without a cat having tried it out first ;0) It'll be a conversation starter when I have others in the car over Christmas!

No! You have the correct setting for maximising condensation removal. (y)

Also, you can buy mini dehumidifiers with the moisture absorbing granules from most £1 shops or failing that you can use those silica gel pouches that you always find inside various packages.

Hope you find the answer or someone else posts that they are having a similar problem so that you rule out any prblems with you A/C system.

It's been mentioned on here a few times that people have found the500 to have a misting problem. I find that it does mist pretty quickly, but that it also clears very quickly, fully & effectively with either just the regular setting or the aircon. Once it's cleared, having the fan speed on 1 is enough to keep it clear.

The rear window heater does need to be used more than cars I've had before, but that's no problem.

bit late reading this, but for what it's worth; I've had exactly the same experience. Never known any car freeze inside so readily, and I've had afew! Clears easily enough, though - so I'm not worrying. I assumed it was unusually thin glass or something, as I've found no incoming damp problems and keep no wet items inside the car for long. Call it "character"!

I have had ice on the inside of the car a couple of times, was worst this evening but it was -5 outside. I have climate control but put the problem down to the relatively short runs so it doesn't get a chance to remove all the moisture on the morning commute.

This morning when setting off for work in -7 Degrees, I noticed a small, thin covering of ice on the 'inside' of my glass roof. It soon evaporated away with the blower on max, within 5-10 minutes.
Same here. Car hadn't been driven for 2 days so can't complain!

Don't see what the problem is, had this on both our cars in this weather... don't think Fiat have done this on purpose.
Ditto. I think some people are unfamiliar with the fact that water freezes below 0 degrees C. I drove the 500 on Tuesday and when I got in it today there was unfrozen snow which had come in on my shoe on Tuesday on the mat. It's cold! Water freezes at 0 degrees C etc etc etc!!!!

I agree but you and I have been Lab technicians and so we have inside information. :D
