General Pilgramage to Torino

General Pilgramage to Torino

Cool stuff. It would be good to try and get as many people interested as possible to warrant the time and effort that will go into the planning though!

I'll start doing some research into stop-overs.....

:)

I do a lot of work in Turin and can say it's a good place to visit for a few days. Haven't ever driven there as I always fly in, but have driven within 60 miles of Turin down through France on the Toll Roads.....good journey but rather monotonous. Took about 9 hours of sensible speeds with a couple of stops.

As for Turin, some fantastic places to eat and drink (including an English pub right near the Porto Nuevo main railway station called The Huntsman....cider, ale, steak and chips), plenty of hotels for varying budgets (although many don't have parking within the city....in fact parking may be a problem), friendly atmosphere and some good sights. It's great to leave the hotel, wander down to the main square and just stop at whatever bar you feel for a drink, then move on to the next one. Even better when the weather is good.

Could well be up for this.....if we ever get the darn car!

Hope you don't take it too badly MaxedOutMan but why would anyone go to Torino and eat in an English Pub?
Torino is I agree not the gastronomical capital of Italy but still is in the country that produce some marvelous hams, cheeses, pastas, pizze, breads etc and does (well for me anyway) the best coffees in the world, unless s.o has spent a month out there and is so homesick that he wants something homely for once I find this idea rather uninspired.
Reminds me of a couple friends of mine who went to Paris this year for a long weekend and admitted eating there at.... Mc Donald's! :bang:

lol Cucciolotto, I know what you mean and I knew someone would mention it, hence I stated there was some fantastic places to eat and drink and placed the English Pub in brackets more as an observation.

My excuse for visiting was that I arrived late in Turin, wanted a beer and a bite (plus wanted to watch the footie as it was when the European Cup was on) and The Hunstman was directly across the road from the hotel, so it was only logical that I paid a visit. They did Italian food to! The staff in The Huntsman were Italian if that counts! :)

I have visited plenty of Italian eateries during my countless stays in Turin, and have to agree with your post, that they do cracking food in general.

And I suppose now would be a bad time to mention the Irish Bar then?? ;)

Sounds good to me. When I went to rome last year - the first night we went to a pizzeria and I swear it was the best I've ever eaten.

This is what I'm hoping for:
