i ran over a piece of rock just about size of my fist while driving at 80 mph. it didn't felt so hard but i heard a sound like hitting your tyre with a hammer(sound that your tyre makes when hammer bounces off the tyre, not a good description i know). so, i'm a bit worried that i damaged the tyre or wishbones. i don't notice any difference in ride, please someone tell me that i didn't hurt my precious little car.

you can preform the following unscientific tests to find out if your car is damaged:

1) drive up to 60mpg on perfectly flat straight and let go of the steering wheel and see if the car would turn to one side on itself (screwed up alignment due to impact);

2) drive up to 100mph and see if anything vibrates (damaged or loosed suspension part/geometry due to impact);

In any case, better send the car to the dealer for a proper checkup... good luck.

Jack it up, look for gouges in the metal? Drive it and see if it wobbles or pulls to one side. Look at the front and back of the tyre, see if there is damage visible, chunks pulled out of rubber etc.

I would not advocate driving a car at up to 100mph as a means of finding out if you have supension/steering damage. :eek:

i drove another 10 miles on highway after the incident and everything seemed to be fine, she doesn't turn to one side itselft and i didn't feel any wobble atl all. i'm going to have her checked today. i'll let you know thanks a lot.

The likeliness is that it just sprang out form under the the tyre, hopefully away from the car. When driving on a pebbled beach, you can hear this noise constantly when the stones get compressed beneath the tyre, then they shoot out giving a "pong" type sound.

yep, that's exactly the sound i was trying to describe. anyway, the good news is there's nothing wrong with the car, the very very bad news is someone hit my car while it was parked across the street, he hit just over the right back tyre. as you can see from the pictures it's not very serious.

i'm not sure i should get it fixed. it's the worst place to hit on that car actually, it can't be replaced and it has to be painted completely as far as i know. the place is so curvy that i'm not sure it's going to be the same as it was before. what do you think i should do? car was only 2 weeks old, i'm extremely upset. :cry:

I had my car hit in exactly the same place although mine was more serious. I dont know what they did but the job was fantastic. You can't tell the difference. And perfect colour match too!! Although it did cost more or less 2000 euros to fix (paid by the insurance company).

Ours had similar damage on the front nearside wing when we bought it and that cost us £220 to repair, well worth it.

I had something similar done to me whilst parked in my Astra. At the time I didnt bother getting it repaired as the estimate was £700. Every time I looked it - I remembered with anger!

Worth finding out whether this is a £200 repair, or a £2000 repair and then deciding whether its worth it for you.

My own opinion, is on a new car, especially one thats considered a "lifestyle" - you should get it fixed

I hope it will be good as new, otherwise it'll niggle me everytime I take a look at it. I'll post the pictures when it's done.

I'm sorry to see that damage Durukan, there are some incompetent animals about driving cars. I live in fear whenever we leave our 500, especially in a supermarket car park. I'd have to get that repaired if it was mine. I hope the repair turns out alright for you, I hate to see any of these little sweeties being wounded!

thanks for your support eribiste. i couldn't get it done in last few days because of the domestic holiday going on here and the damage kept bugging me all the time, now i'm sure that i should get it repaired. at least his insurance is going to pay for it. i wonder if they could match the colour(i think it's 270 funk white), if the area is locally painted after getting repaired. does anyone have an idea?

Yes I can confirm that I had to have the whole front wing touched up after a v-shaped gouge in the paintwork by the valeters pre-delivery, and I couldn't tell afterwards where the gouge had been. They had practised on another FW before mine though so they did have an idea of how to do the paint layers though.

i left my car for repair this morning. they said that the damaged area will be painted locally and rest of the back wing will be varnished. they also warned me that there might be a slight difference in tone of the paint which i would hardly recognize. i'm going to pick it up friday, i hope they'll do a nice job.

Wtf!!!

i'm planning to kill myself tonight. i knew this was going to happen. :bang:

now a specialist from the company that produces these paints for Fiat is going to work on my car next week. if they can't match the colour again i'll literally bomb the dealer and i'm very serious about that. they ****ed up the car for god's sake.
