Re: new 1.3 MJet 95 HP engine prices

I hope that they have improved the DPF operation as I see that it also uses the stop and start system. At least around town the 75Hp version will regenerate as long as the engine is not switched off during the cycle.

I guess if the ECU detects it is approaching a regeneration cycle it will over-ride the stop/start but I don't see how multiple stop/starts will be anything but harmful to a DPF in the long term.

This is just my personal view so I hope that someone (D4nny8oy) will be able to explain how clever the new system is as I would be very tempted to get this engine if the SGE version isn't happening in 2010.

Of course I would be taking a leap of faith bearing in mind my experiences with my car but, as stated before, I think that my problems are not generic and apart from DPF problems the engine is fantastic in all other respects.

If it were me I'd wait till SGE comes out and get the turbo. You might take a slight hit on economy but it should be a fantastic engine.

Jake, this is one of those rare cases whereby you can have everything (if you can believe the hype, and I DO). The twin cylinder turbo with multiair will have more power than the 1.4, better fuel consumption than the 1.3MJT, loads of torque low down and no road fund tax to pay as it has emissions below 100.

Re: new 1.3 MJet 95 HP engine prices

It's what I'm waiting for anyway. In a tiny car giving 80+ mpg. That way if (when) fuel hits £10/gallon in a year or two it'll still be the equivalent of 40mpg today, which isn't too bad at all.

Actually the 500 Multijet2 itself gives over 80mpg out of town so it's a great little car.

They'll get the Multiair too. The Abarth for the US is stated to get it - in something like 2012 if I remember right - but it will come to Europe before then. Just as soon as they can crank up production I suppose.
