Something I noticed a while ago but have done nothing about - my indicators don't seem to be even.

When I turn the right hand indicator on it often cancels too early and I have to switch it on again, and sometimes the left indicator doesn't cancel at all (it does click as if it has cancelled though).

Has anybody else had this on their car? And is it an easy fix? I don't want to book the car in at the dealer if it's something I can do myself, but I want to get it sorted while the car is still under warranty.

Just how it is.

This has been covered many times before, across different models, but I'll run through it again-

The indicators are designed to cancel once the wheel has reached 90deg from straight-ahead in the direction you're indicating. If the wheel doesn't reach 90deg- it won't cancel (ie, when leaving a roundabout).
But, if you enter a roundabout and indicate right, when you turn slightly left to join the roundabout the stalk will cancel as it's triggered by the cam. It's how it's been engineered, a new stalk unit will not fix the 'problem'. ;)

If you don't understand the above, try sitting in the car, indicating and turning the wheel while stationary in both directions (and the 'wrong' direction- indicate left, turn right) and you'll see there's nothing 'uneven' about them.

This is just how they are. I discovered this on my test drive and found I was fine with it.

Thanks for your responses.

However the non-cancelling left indicator sometimes cancels okay, and sometimes makes a loud click, as if it should have cancelled but something has missed (if that makes any sense at all). In these instances the steering wheel has been dead ahead when I started indicating, and turned through 180 degrees or more. I would have thought that would be more than enough to cancel it:confused:

Anyway it's only a minor inconvenience in an otherwise excellent car.

Yeah can be annoying at times - turning onto the same roundabout every day it happens. But once I got used to it after a week or so its fine.
Maybe you could just avoid using your indicators at all?

It's a bit rubbish and it annoys me too. Never had a car before that does this.

I don't understand what's annoying you about the indicators. Either press lever "gently" to flash 3 times or use in the normal way! It works for me!

Does this look like a BMW forum to you?:p

 I think not indicating is totally Italian... as is not stopping for zebra crossing, using hazards like a cloaking device when illegally parked and using the old point and drive navigation system :p

I don't understand why you don't understand. When turning right at a roundabout you're suposed to indicate right as you approach the roundabout. However, when you turn the wheel slightly to the left as you join the roundabout, the right hand indicator cancels when it shouldn't. Likewise, when you indicate left as you leave the roundabout, the indicator doesn't cancel after you've left the roundabout.

It's all very wheel saying use the "flash 3 times" function, but on big roundabouts (of which there are many near me) that doesn't work as it doesn't flash for long enough.

indeed you are correct - to the letter of the highway code

but most people (myself included) start indicating when cleared the first exit and already on the roundabout (y)

Very true but you can repeatedly use the soft touch option, I find I need to do it 3 or 4 times in the situation you describe above. Also, once you are on the roundabout you can revert to using the indicators as normal.

If it was possible to alter the number of flashes via the menu I am sure most people would consider that very useful.
