My 500 speakers have suddenly started making banging, whistling and crackling noises in spurts. Sound system is off. No phones connected. Any thoughts?

You might find that the bluetooth connection is still active. Turn the stereo on and then off and it should sort that. Happened to me just the other day. if it's not that FIIK.
