Yes but some people aren't fussed with fashion and looking 'cool'. I suspect most people would happily have a few extra thousand in their back pocket rather than driving a car which is less practical and a bit better looking.

I am not fussed with fashion or looking cool and I would be happy with a couple of grand in my pocket - what I am bothered about is owning things I like and my 500 makes me smile everytime I see it and I think how lucky I am to have the car I really want!

but as always there will be people who just want something cheap and cheerful which is reliable and will get them from A to B whilst also being practical as well and for this the Panda is better than the 500.

Re: what to pay?

i have driven Fiats for 10 years plus and in that time Fiats have ranged from being objects of ridicule to sub zero cool so the current perception is a bonus

would be just as happy driving a base model Panda to be honest

Nothing is worse than driving around in the worlds most reliable car (my '79 131 Mirafiori) in Australia where people have absofrickinlutely no respect for the Fiat name. People would laugh at me even though my car had only broken down ONCE in 20 years! For ANY 70's car that's fantastic.

Therefore unless your desperate for a new car you could wait and see what happens to prices after scrappage runs out. I think car makers might struggle for a while, and maybe some deals about again, as I think non scrappage customers are funding scrappers discount to an extent.

A fiesta 1.25 Zetec is about 10,500 on dealdrivers, similar price to a lounge, far more accomplished car overall, buts its not a 500.
The 1.25 (New) Fiesta is heavier than the 500, it was something I was considering but by the time we'd gone up to a 1.4 and had similar extras it was over 2k more. But then the KA is the equivilent size to the 500 so can't really be compared like for like.
Also if your planning on keeping the car for a good while (like I am) the retro cars stay looking current for longer, where as the Fiesta is on its 3rd model in 13 years.
My last car was a Fiesta and I loved it but I'm made up with my 500 so far.

If you consider all the facelifts that the Fiesta had as well the current model will look even more out of date in the future compared to the 500. The Mk4 and Mk5's also had a facelift each.
