I should, one of my close friends owns a 56 plate Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec D and it's scarily fast! He loves it to bits and it leaves my little 500 in the dust, but it isn't all about going super fast in one car and looking pretty and being economical in another.

Finally, the Abarth 500 IS fast, just because faster cars exist it doesn't make it slow.
Listen, you were the one who brought it up. You were the one who said "If the 500 you've got is quick enough then why not an Abarth" (I paraphrase of course) and I am merely justifying my opinion and my purchase and why an Abarth would be a bit of a waste when we've already got something with more go and we wanted something which was cheapish to buy and even cheaper to run.

A few owners have reported figures of 140 to 161 BHP standard, which you can believe if you want to. I've personally timed 0-60 several times with an accurate stopwatch (and a mate who didn't believe the 0-60 time) and it ranges between 6.8 and 7.4, i would say an average of 7.2 from a non SS A500. OK so it's not that quick, but it's nippy up to 100 and last week i raced an Aston Martin DB9 in the wet, and over the 9 mile journey i lost him 2 or 3 times (i was in front!) He passed me when i turned off later on and gave a flash of lights and a power surge of throttle!

I've also had a 350Z follow me out of a junction and copy me when i floored it, however he constantly stayed at least 3 car lengths behind me and didn't catch up.

I think the type of roads you drive makes a huge difference, I've never driven the A500 on a motorway for example, 95% of my driving is tight twisty narrow roads over the hills and far away where the A500 is best suited. But the GPA is probably a lot better on bigger roads over long distances etc. So i haven't really come to a conclusion have i
Of course it's nippy and I never suggested otherwise

As for the racing an Aston.... LOL People always seem to think that the other person is racing them. Sometimes people don't care at all, sometimes they're not in the mood and some people just aren't confident in the corners and just like to give it a blat on the straights.

As for the Nissan, if he was less than 3 car lengths behind you at speed then he'd have been tailgating, perhaps he's just a sensible drive who likes to put his foot down but doesn't want a race or anything

Re: Tailgate

Fair enough, not saying you're silly for not getting an Abarth or anything, and the Impreza is a fantastic machine and lots (and lots) of fun. Just saying, you can't really call the Abarth slow, just think it's because you're used to something faster.

You're right, I can't call the 500 Abarth slow and I DIDN'T.

Anyway I'm not a huge fan of Impreza's anyway, too showy and a bit chavvy IMHO unless it's one of the special editions like the RB5, P1 and McRae edition.

I don't think the Subaru referred to here in this thread is a 56 plater more 1956.

Hey hey! I'll have you know that the Subaru is a 94! Aside from the propshaft the running gear and suspension is exactly the same as what the Impreza used until 2001

Re: Tailgate

Cars back with New tailgate and fixed handbrake, although they didn't bother to wash it It was filthy!

The GPA Esseesse is quicker obviously, but I had miles more fun in the 500 on the way back!! Never really been able to drive it properly, but I had the chance today and it was superb. Love it

Re: Tailgate

it is a crappy tailgate catch - when i first got my a500 i had to stop myself checking it every time i closed it...just never feels or sounds like it closes properly - and i guess it doesnt really. but so far no lights appearing.

clearly a very bad, cheap design though.
