also the residuals will be hopeless on such cheap and nasty cars like Dacias

I shiver at the thought of driving such horrendous creations

talk of rubbish cars I followed a Hyundai i10 the other day and it reminded me of a CityRover

I wonder if there is a Dacia forum we can wreak havoc on - go on maxi you know you wanna

Edited for accuracy :p

Perhaps the new ones are OK but to me it's like Skoda - to me it will always be a rubbish eastern bloc car for peasants (n)

Yes Rob, I was talking about the ones engineered by Renault. ;) (post 2005)
Here's an article about the reliability + comments from owner, and you are probably aware how the French always shrug and moan and that nothing is ever good enough for them. Well on that one you' ll be surprised to read that they are unanimously delighted with Dacia. Believe it or not, it is reliable and well built. http://guide-occasion.caradisiac.co...eme-bougie-est-elle-toujours-aussi-fiable-291

All that in relation to my main point: is a teeny weeny 500 really worth five grand more than a Dacia 5/7 seater ........? Most certainly not.
But I'm happy to pay that much without any doubt! :p

I doubt most of the people on this forum are 'Fiat' people
I reckon that would be a very interesting topic*: who's got "history" with Fiat, who "feels" the brand Fiat, who admire Fiat and for what, and on the other hand who happens to own his/her first Fiat in that lovely shape of a 500?

*unless it already exists

I have owned and driven Fiat/Alfa for over 10 years and currently own 4 of them. A New 500 and 3 Cinq Sportings. So yes I am Fiat through and through.
And you couldn't pay me to drive a Dacia :ROFLMAO:

I had not doubt that you were. ;)
I was not talking about you in particular, but generally on this forum (and the part that interests us most, the 500), out of curiosity really. :)

i think its about 33% enthusiasts 33% first time Fiat owners and the rest are dreamers and trolls :D

Put me down as a first time Fiat owner. When I was looking for a smaller car I didn't even consider a Fiat but after being underwhelmed by Polo, Yaris, Jazz, Colt, Renaul and Peugeot etc. offerings I just happened to see a 500 whilst going to another test drive and that decided it for me.

I wasn't even considering a new car at the time as I wasn't planning on keeping it long term but now I will almost certainly buy another next year.

Enthusiast here too!

We started with an original 500 many years ago, we've had our multi for nearly 10 years and our new 500 for nearly a year now (would have got it much sooner if I could have afforded/justified it!) Not planning on getting rid of it ever!

Same here. I don't see the point in getting rid of a perfectly good car. The only time I ever got rid of a working car was when I moved to the UK from Australia. In the UK there seems to be this whole plate-***** thing where the newer your plate the better your car supposedly. Someone asked me why I didn't wait a little or order later to get my car on a 59 plate and my reply was that I bought the car to drive and not to show of some poxy plate.

Why would you get rid of the one you've got to buy another, if there is nothing wrong with the original? I know lots of people do this and it has alway intrigued me :)
Grimwau wants the new 900cc two cylinder with Multiair. Frankly I think he's crazy if he's going to buy it within the first 6-12 months of production but that's just me :p

I was talking about this at the weekend. I usually change cars every 3-4 years because I fancy a change. However I would only replace this 500 with another 500 so I don't see the point. Intend to keep this car for about 8 years and then will trade in for a newer model with newer technology (expect there will be some new audio/blue&me/usb thingy out one day).

Yeah perhaps it'll be mind controlled.

The option that you thought of is not available. I didn't quite get that, can you please think that again or think help to have all the options beamed straight into your head.

Tracy, you must be one of the few people not to know that I have had/am still having problems with my DPF. That is the ONLY reason I am changing the car. The fact that apart from the engine the new car will look exactly the same (apart from leather and interscope) shows how keen I am on my original choice.

I fully intended to keep the car for a long time and if Fiat could sort the problem out I would not be looking to change.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that this engine was going to be introduced in another vehicle before it became available for the 500, not sure if it was another Fiat or an Alfa.

As Tracy says, someone has to be the first and bearing in mind how many testing miles these engines have undergone I am prepared to take a chance.
