Well, I know it seems as if I only come in here when I have a question about Kimmy's car. It's a black 500 1.2 lounge, red and cream leather, alloys, etc...

It's nice. Anyway, I have a question about the spotlights, or foglamps, or running lights. Are they supposed to be on all the time, or just when you turn the main headlamps on?

I think I remember being told they would always come on, but about 5 months of living with it every day, I've only just noticed that they only come on with the main lights. Help, Please?

I noticed there wasnt switch for dimmed front light. Only on and off with main beam. But then I realised in the evening, the car automatically turns on dimmed front lights as default. Not sure if theres a light source sensor on the car or its based on time clock. Anyone to clear up?

There are no "dimmed" front lights.

There 4 sets of lights you might have on the front of your car

Headlights - both low and high beam
Foglights - Dependant on spec
DRL's or Day Running Lights - which are on all the time by default or turned off in the dash menu.

The only thing light sensitive is the dash lighting on the car.

Here's a nice crappy picture of my car which shows both the low beam lights and DRL's lit up

Ah i didnt noticed DRL were on by default regardless. Didnt spot them during the day

I'm not trying to be funny here but does nobody read the book anymore? It answers almost all of the questions that new owners come on here asking.

It's a huge new machine to learn about, the book should be the first reference for absolutely anything!

Sadly anyone saying this gets called rude, mean etc etc. There are some things which the manual doesn't cover or doesn't perhaps explain as well as it could but if people would just read the manual from cover to cover they'd understand their car far better.

same in all the car sections on here.......

its not been rude its stating a fact you are driving 1 tonne of "pig iron" with only the basics taught in your driving test. which has the potential to kill you or someone else

you just have to search for some of the "silly" questions some people post (not inferring to the op of this thread) about how to check the oil level , tyre pressure and such things which should be fundamental in passing your driving test.....

take my sister (who uses mums car now and then) mums car had a puncture so she (mum) took dads car  ... sister wanted to go out then saw flat sulked then went back in to house...

got the "mums cars got a flat tyre"

so ever the kind brother i made her change it

i dragged my sister out and made her do it all herself ...

from dropping the spare

looking in the book to locate the jack points (i knew where they were)
cracking the nuts with a long breaker bar
jacking the car safely
ect

end result she ended up helping a mate who had a flat and they both got home without any drama she managed to show HIM up by knowing what to do.......

beat me to it lloyd by seconds :(

I can only applaud your actions. Sadly on this forum there is a large group of people who bands together to whinge and whine whenever anyone tries to help someone to help themselves.

When we got our 500 the wife sat down with the manual and read it from cover to cover, she still didn't know everything because the manual isn't perfect but at least she tried. It shows just how lazy people are these days that rather than read the manual they'll go to the effort of posting on a forum.

I know not everyone wants or needs to be intimate with the oily bits of the car but it frustrates me when people just don't know anything about cars other than how to operate the controls.

Great example of this.
My brother was driving along and the car suddenly started making a noise. Got out kinda had a poke around in the engine bay, couldn't see anything so he drove back home and told my dad. Turned out the suspension had collapsed on the car and it should have been pretty obvious to anyone looking!

Whereas I was driving around in my 504 and heard a knocking noise, immediately knew it was the suspension and had a poke around and found that one of the nuts that holds the lower suspension arm on was loose, tightened it up with an adjustable spanner and went home then went to a spares place and got a replacement, went home and my dad fitted it for me.

Couldn't agree more Lloyd, it annoys me greatly on this forum that when you try to tell someone to look in the manual or search for themselves someone else either comes in and just tells them or tells you off. Isn't life just that bit more satisfying and safe when people are able to do things for themselves.

Hi. I did look in the manual. I just missed it. After re-reading it, I found it. I asked on the forum, not because I am 'lazy' but because I thought this would be the best place to get an answer. As for understanding the lump of 'pig iron' I have bought for my wife, am I now to understand that I should make her sit and read the manual from cover to cover so that she understands it better? When, exactly, would she do this? Give me the time in the day, and I would understand lots of things better, each with a higher priority than the vanity lights on a fu*&ing car.

I know better now than to ask anything here which might be better found elsewhere.

It's understandable why this forum isn't more popular with replies like this.

Better than the people who actually made the entire car?

What about a higher priority than a car which is, potentially, a weapon of mass murder?

I'm sure even the police would like people to know how their cars work before driving them. Also, there is plenty of time in anyone's day to look through it. All it would take is 10 minutes or so before bedtime. Would that be so hard?

I read mine while sat on the toilet. I'm sure every human needs to do that.

Crikey there are some self-righteous folk on here. I only joined this forum to see if anyone could tell me how to change the day lights (which the manual does not explain at all) but I don't think I'll bother asking.

Do any of you genuinely believe that you are dangerous piloting a 1-tonne "weapon" because you haven't read the manual? I presume you didn't bother to test-drive your 500 on the grounds you wouldn't be able to do so safely? Pillocks.

its in the menu of the car that can only be accessed when the car is stationary. or maybe you CAN be moving.

anyway, its called 'daylights' and its next to the 'security' feature that locks the doors when you hit 20km/h (dunno what that is in miles sorry)

hope that helps mate!

I think he means how to change the bulbs. Which is actually in the handbook :)

There's a difference between test driving a car for a little while and owning the car without knowing how it operates at all times of the day and in all conditions. That's not the point I was making though, it's more the idea of it in general that concerns me.

There's also no need to throw insults around at people you don't know. I could be a genius for all you know.

Yes Lloyd71 you are a genius....;)

If you're happy and you know it clap you hands....

thought I'd add an intermission so everyone can have a break.

On a vaguely related note - I'll be adding instructions for the chrome bonnet mods and wing mirrors today. These are defo not in the mannual and may assist and close off some of the repeat 'how do I?..' sections!

3...2...1.. and your back in the room!

:ROFLMAO: @ another DRL thread they all end the same way

there are 3 problems here

- people who don't know how to drive
- dealers that do not give proper instruction in the cars features
- laziness in reading the manual

I got a new camera at the weekend, a full blown digital SLR with adjustable everything. Only a secondhand one but a good one nonetheless.
Being familiar with use of a camera I used it in full Auto mode and it worked well.
When I got home I read the quick start guide and learned some more about the great features and how to configure the camera.
I also leafed through the full handbook and I plan to go out at the weekend with the handbook and explore the full functionality.

If I can do this with a £160 camera why can't people do the same with a £10000 car
