Hi there,

Loving my new 500 start & stop so far. I picked it up on Wednesday, and last night I did 280 miles from North Yorkshire to Cardiff. The car was great on the motorway, but I did have a mishap. What I can only assume was a tyre, rolled in front of me and I went over it at 70mph. I was a bit shocked, as it did give me a jolt, but there was nowhere to stop safely, and the car felt ok so I just carried on. I had a quick look at the car last night when I got here, but couldn't see anything wrong. However, another look in the daylight showed that the grill above the front bumper had been pushed back slightly - I just had to pull it forward to click it back into place - and there are some minor marks and scratches on the bumper. Do you think I should get it looked at in case it's snagged anything under the car?

I also noticed that my left side rear foglight isn't working - yes I forgot to check the lights when I picked it up. Should I take this to a dealer (I can't take it to the dealer I bought it from) and get it sorted on the warrenty? It seems like a lot of hassle just for a bulb. If I just got my local mechanic to change the bulb for me, will it affect the warrenty?

I was marginally disappointed to discover that start/stops don't have the underseat storage compartment. I was under the impression they did. Oh well. Also got a bit of dashboard rattling on the way, but that seemed to calm down after a while.

Does anyone else here have problems with Blue & Me and their ipod? All the files are saved in the right format etc, but it takes the system ages to access them, and it wont recognise playlists or anything. I have to have the ipod plugged into the usb a good 10-15 mins before it will play anything. I think this may have something to do with the amount of music I have on there - over 2000 songs - or maybe my ipod is old and needs replacing?

I haven't had any problems as yet with the stop/start system, but I'll wait a couple of weeks and see what happens before adding my two penneth to the massive thread about start/stop warning lights and answering the poll.

Cheers guys! :)

Glad you got the car and enjoying it....

With regards to the 'mishap', I personally wouldnt bother taking it into the dealer.. but I wasnt there and dont know what impact you took. You will have to make a decision yourself, if it is worrying you take it in for an inspection.

:)

I did that a few years ago I took a £40,000 toyota:eek: back and said the fog light was inop.
they say for £40k you only get 1.(n)

so I suppose for £10k we will have to compromise(n).
Ask a mate who has an idea to have a look as thats un bias and free as dealers will want you to repaint it.

In many countries, for example Germany, it is only legal to have one rear fog light. This is sensible, because two rear fogs are brighter than brake lights and so reduce the noticeability of these in bad conditions. One very bright rear fog is noticed before the other lights, and by that time the whole vehicle is seen and the following driver is aware. It makes sense.

I think you'll find that most if not all cars have only 1 rear fog now. It's not a compromise, it's the way it is.

Soraya - got mine today and have iPhone 3GS - answer seems to be the adapter which I am just off to order. seems to address all the concerns you have...

Can't post a URL but there is another thread - search "iphone adapter blue me"

Thanks very much everybody!

I had no idea that cars only have one rear foglight. In fact, I didn't even realise that my old car had rear foglights until the dealer mentioned the symbol for rear fog lights when he showed me the new car - I had a light-bulb moment: "So THAT'S what that button was for!!!". Anyway - that's saved me a bit of embarrasment, so cheers for enlightnening me!

By the way, the document sleeve on both sides of my passenger sun visor is awful. It's covered with printed yed and yellow safety warnings that looks like a sticker that should peel off. Has anyone else been annoyed by this? t's an eyesore! My options are, somehow get rid if it, without leaving any nasty evidence of having ripped it off, or stick something over it - perhaps a photograph? Also, the handbook says there should be a light over the passenger visor, but there isn't on my car - is that a discontinued feature?

Thanks again everybody! :)

the passenger sun visor warnings are only there if the visor is down?-

and they do have necessary safety info....and u dont sit in the passenger seat!!

i must ask..did u SERIOUSLY not know about rear fog lights?.....how did you pass your test???????????.....its in the highway code!!!!!!!!??????????

You have another option with the visor do what everyone else has done and leave the warnings there, they're important warnings and no offence but you hardly seem the sort who already knows all the information that's printed on there. Would you rip the airbag off the steering wheel if you didn't think it looked nice? No? Well then don't rip a safety warning off the car..... it's important!

Are you admitting on a public forum that if you'd driven in heavy spray or fog since you had your old car that you never had the rear foglight on?

Woah! Ok people. I didn't expect a grilling, thanks.

No I didn't know that cars only have one rear foglight - sorry, or what the symbol was. But then, I haven't really driven in fog. I did manage to pass my test in spite of my unbelievable incompetence and I've never had an accident or a crash of any kind, apart from the incident with the debris on the road the other night.

As I said if you read my post correctly, the warning signs about turning the airbag off with using a child seat are on BOTH sides of the visor, so you don't just see them when you have the visor down. Is this a new developement? I don't feel it would be irresponsible to remove them from the side that's showing, as the instructions for rearfacing childseats always state quite clearly that you MUST deactivate the airbag before using it. Also, the warnings will still be on the other side, should I ever need to remind myself of the fact. I think likening this to me removing an airbag because I don't like the look of it, is rather over the top.

I've found this forum really interesting and useful so far, but I don't really relish being made to feel stupid and irresponsible by people who don't really know me. There's no reason replies can't be kept respectful and polite. Alright, I may have surprised you by not knowing something that you thought was obvious, but then maybe I wasn't taught properly in the first place.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, anyway.

No one is trying to make you feel stupid. But EVERYONE should know basic things like how the foglights work.

Well, I do know now, and I did when I started this thread. Berating me for something I didn't know in the past isn't really constructive, in my opinion.

Rest assured, 306maxi, your comments and opinions have been duly noted and I shall certainly bare them in mind.

If we can get back to topic on this thread, and if anyone else has anything helpful to contribute regarding the stuff I mentioned, I'd be grateful.

Thanks. :)

I've just re-read your original post and I would seriously recommend you take the car in and let them take a look underneath, just in case.
