Technical change engine oil message and red oil light flashing on the dash...

Hi guys,

What i was reading about the oil change and all the stories i was wondering, do you guys ever worked on your car yourself ?

I've been working on cars for over 30years now, mostly BMW's and a change of oil and filter is kidsplay i must say.

For the answer how to reset the 500's oillight you do not to buy any hardware, just put the contact(ignition) on (do not start) en within 10seconds you push the accelerator in 3 times and the light is resetted.

Cheers

Hi,
The hardest part on modern cars can be getting the undertray off and on.
Your trick may reset th service light, but it's not enough on modern diesels with DPFs. See my post above. You can buy Multiecuscan (MES) for €50 and an interface for about €30. Highly recomended for any owner of a modern Fiat who does their own maintenance. It will pay for itself first time you don't have to visit a dealer for reset. No connection with MES other than happy customer. There are other options, notably AlfaOBD.

I now, i have a Autel MS509 Maxiscan myself but as said if the oillight the only thing thats need to be resetted it is simply done without any extra equipment.

The Fiat scene is new to me but a car is car, i'm programming all my BMW's myself with laptop and ESYS, INPA or ISTA/P etc.. .
So i will look in to it if a Fiat is accepting any of this programmaing to.

From what I understand MES does have some coding options similar to BMW and the software even though not made by the manufacturer (fiat) is much better than INPA for sure

Colezy, MoneyFor

Diesel 500's must have the oil degradation counter reset after the oil is changed or you risk seriously damaging the DPF and emissions control system. This can only be done using a vehicle-specific tool such as Fiat Examiner or MultiEcuScan - generic reset tools are generally unable to properly reset the system, irrespective of whether they can reset the warning messages (and most can't even do this).

Ressurecting a thread in the 500 section that's been dead for over six years to post details of a procedure for a 10yr old Doblo isn't helpful. None of this is either relevant or correct as far as a 500 is concerned and the oil change & degradation counter reset procedure for the DPF equipped Mjet in the 500 has been amply covered here already.

Other folks have had to spend time and effort in reposting to correct this misleading information (thanks g8rpi).

Sometimes I wonder why we even bother having a search function.

Hi @MoneyFor
You have not stated which engine your Fiat has so I can't know if it has an oil degredation counter. The Multiecuscan software is MUCH more capable than any multi vehicle scantool. It has proper fault information not just a code, you can read and graph parameters, change settings, actuate bus controlled features (lights, pumps etc) and program changes to CAN nodes.

Is it a diesel with a DPF?
I’ve got a giulietta 2012 jtdm2 with a flashing oil light and check engine message. I think it may be because the oil change service has not been reset. I have the elm and yellow cable to do it. Does anyone know what I need to do. Thanks

This procedure works for my 08 1.3mjet Screenshot_2018-09-06-21-04-38.jpeg

New 500 multijet owner here. Bought basically as a non runner. Got it going but flashing lights and limp mode. I have put on a new DPF and changed the oil which was halfway up the dipstick but disappointingly the car was exactly the same. Trawling through the forum I came across the above post...... Worth a try I thought. Hey presto, no flashing oil light and it now starts straightaway and no Limp Mode. Yipee! Hats off to you Sir. :slayer:
I have sent a message to g8rpi hoping he can scan it regarding above. Only thing wrong now is engine check light on.

I gave ours (Twin air 105 bhp) an Oil & filter change as soon as we got it. So obviously had no warning light/message.
I've not done this so called reset either and everything is running sweet. Not even losing oil.
So, question is. Am I still likely to get a warning message?

You've got the TA though and doesn't have to have it. Think the thread relates to the diesel.
