Tuning ECU remap for 1.3 diesel

I appreciate your help I really do.

All I want is comments/ideas/help from 500 owners, purely so I know if there are drivability issues, gearbox stresses from the added power. That is all. Owners comments are what particularly are useful to me...........I've been stung in the past from bodge jobs and since it will be a new car...I REALLY don't want to do the wrong thing.

I did consider having one of the tuning boxes fitted as opposed to a remap (similar gains in power/torque) because it would be removable when going into the dealership for servicing/warranty work although if the car was older I would definitely have had it remapped.

16 months ago when I first looked into it there were warnings that the gearbox would not take the extra strain but at that time Angel's 500 had completed c10000 miles without any problems so that would seem to dispel that myth.

At least Angel have a test car that you can try whereas with many others you will have to rely on their facts and figures.

My best advice is to try a car already remapped and make sure that yours has a before and after run on a Dyno to get a true picture of the performance gains.

:) Seriously, wish you and your new baby well. RobW knows his stuff, as he says there has been much debate about tuning companies and results, proven or not 1 way or another.

The bottom line is how you use any gains, and how well the car is looked after post re-map. I know mine is not a 500 but I take the view that it pays to shorten service intervals and I even had my timing belt and water pump changed early just to take the re-map into consideration. (y)

Thanks chaps.

How long have you had yours done? Was it by Angel Tuning? I take it nothing has detonated prematurely?:) Everything running ok?

Me? Done 23,000 miles ago by Red Dot Racing. 55,000 miles on the clock now.
No issues at all, yesterday the car passed its MoT with no issues regarding emmissions and I have had nothing fail or even complain. It was the best £200 I ever spent to date TBH. Made a big difference in performance with little or no reduction in economy.

I had all the same concerns you have now.

Is the gearbox in the diesel and 1.2 the same? As I have heard of someone who wrecked the gearbox inside a fortnight with a supercharger added to the 1.2 due to the extra demands put on it, though that is probably more extreme than a simple remap on a diesel

Diesel and 1.2 will have different boxes for sure. Gearing alone means they need different boxes
