Our 500 is now a year and two days old and had its first service today. We took it to AMC Fiat in Chelmsford and we were really impressed. They did three updates while they had it: one for Blue and Me, one for the instrument panel and "download for hard start". They cleaned the car inside and out and stamped the service book without having to be asked, total cost £129.86.

I would certainly recomend them. (y)

Sounds good service. Ours has the hard start issue and i mentioned and they said will be better after oil change:bang:

I have just been quoted £169.93 by Stonacre. I think that is pretty steep when you consider what they actually do and the fact my car is very low mileage. I am awaiting my local service centre to get back to me with a definitive price.
He did say they charge about £30 an hour plus parts and it shouldn't take more than an hour, so I reckon they should be able to knock £100 off Stoneacres price easily.
I assume that they will be able to reset anything that needs resetting etc????
N

Just phoned back and quoted £50 plus vat!.... and will collect and deliver (I cannot drive at the moment) They will also do everything on the service schedule. Stonacre are definitely ripping people off!

£50+VAT great price for a low mileage service! fiat dealerships will always rip you off compared to independents, because they can.

there are SO many people that just wont consider going elsewhere - maybe because they have a deluded view about a non-dealer service stamp taking thousands off their car - or they think they somehow get better work (as if!!) at a 'proper' dealership.

fiat milk the gullible. end of.

All dealers do it though. I'm going to have my 500 serviced at an independent I know and trust and if anyone expects to get a penny off the price of my car because it's not got Fiat stamps if I ever sell it then they're going to be out of luck :)

Got a friend With an Alfa who took it in for a service a while back. Dropped the car off and spent a while in the show room talking to the salesman, when he left the dealer ship his car was in the workshop, he went across the road to pop into a shop and when he came out the car was back on the forecourt.
He phoned the dealer ship up to see if the car was ready and was told it was and could be picked up anytime (the service had taken 40 minutes:eek:)
He went back in asked to see the bill - the labour was down at 4 hours:mad:
He was told this was the reccomended service time to charge by alfa, so after a long debate with the manager using words like rip off and trading standards - the garage only charged him for 1 hour labour which was a massive saving on the bill - dealers will always charge for a specific amount of labour (usually nowhere near the actual amount of time) - sometimes its worth questioning.

Hence why I prefer to go to someone who I know and trust :)

They've frequently undercharged for labour (y) I'm not going to be popular though when I turn up next week with a rocker cover gasket to be done on the Subaru. Skinned knuckles and restrictive working space! w00t!!!

Rather them than me on that one:D

I'm purchasing mine on finance with a fiat dealer with a view to trading in after 3 years. How would i stand on servicing? If i dont have it serviced with a main fiat dealer will this effect me being able to trade it in after the 3 years? or effect the 'FGV'???

They could if they wanted to. But it shouldn't if you get what I mean

Rather! I'm going to be nice though and buy all new bolts for it and get some proper spec gasket sealant as per the reccomendations so it's done done nice and properly. Don't fancy asking them to do it again as often happens with Subaru's.
