Yea, if you really cared then why buy it? Every car I've owned has been tiny in every way. I've been laughed at for years. But almost every car i owned was pretty nippy thanks to it's tiny size, fun to drive and i was the one laughing at my ridiculous fuel bill at the end of the month! And besides it helped me save for an Abarth!

I told the guys in my office today that i am getting one..
They all said i was mad... after telling me that it is a girls car and a gays car i showed them a couple of photos of the ByDiesel and they all said that it looks cool.

I would never ever think of the 500 as a 'girls' car. I agree that is a weird British attitude to being basically a bit stylish - an attitude you don't get in places like France, Spain,Italy .

Why does all men's stuff in this country have to be lumpen, boring and ugly? Answer – it doesn't, so those people saying its a girls car, gay or whatever are just massively JEALOUS. I think its sad even that men seem to feel like they can't get the 500 in certain colours in case they're seen as feminine – if you like a certain colour, just get it. And why the hell should you have to slap some massive alloys on there to 'prove' your manhood, its ridiculous!

I am a girl and if I saw a guy in a 500 and a guy in a Ferrari (etc) I would prefer the guy in the 500 ANYDAY – even if he was really pig ugly!!!

So there! :D

My current car is a 2008 Audi TT and people said when I was ordering it that it was a hairdressers car... Until i got it then the all loved it.

Can't recall anybody at my work say the 500 was a girls car. Everybody loves it! I work for a large employer with a few hundred people on site. There's at least 4 500s I regularly see in the car park that I can think of. Three of us at work are guys- 2 with black and 1 with white. One guy drives "his wifes" 500 to work regularly.

Girls generally love the car so perhaps they will be interested in you too;)

My husband had women flocking around him when out with our daughter when she was just a few days old - reckon same will happen with the 500. Your mates will be jealous then:)

I was at Sainsburys on Sunday afternoon, I had two young women asking about my 500 and lots of smiley looks on the way out (y)

There's a guy a couple of doors down, he a big wig at Jaguar :eek:and comes home in all sorts of flash cars on test............He says the best looks hes had in a car are in....................a Maserati Quattroporte and a Fiat 500 :D (y)

The car what you make of it, that is the beauty of the 500.

On the Derbyshire 500 meet up, there were several of us that went, I was the only owner who was a girl :p

I haven't had any really negative comments about my 500, although my friend at work marvels that I can actually fit in it as I'm 6'2". Mostly get curious looks from blokes and smiles from girls.

Even the serious petrol heads seem to have respect for it - one guy was a bit critical until I told him it gets 65mpg and I can park it in spaces other drivers can only dream about:cool:

nothing new!

I have been driving small Fiats for 15 years and am always told they are:

  • gay
  • a girls car
  • where's the one for the other foot
  • did it shrink in the car wash

type 'jokes'

accept their banter smile and enjoy the car, as it is a lot of fun and particularly relevant in the current eco aware climate and recession (y)

Small and unpretentious is the new cool. Which is why things like Cayenne's and Range Rovers are undoubtedly cockish to the max.
