Ok, just an update for all those interested in tunning a 500 1.4 sport.
Yesterday i finished installing a k&n filter element, and my powerbox from fga motorsport. I didnt believe this little car had so much in it. Its been transformed into a growling, revving little rocket!! People just look at the car, and cant believe its a 500 that just blew by them. After a little trip today, reached 160kmh effortlesly, and the car had so much more. I should mention that with the eibach prokits springs, the car was very managable, agile, and very stuck on the road. For those that dont want to dish out the xtra cash for the ABARTH, this is definetly a great alternative.(y)

Regardless it should make as much difference as turning up the mixture on the old webbers, as the lamba sensor controls the fueling!

you will care when borewash has killed your engine
You sadly can't teach some people :)

Well at least it's likely that it's not going to get sold to another FF member second hand as the car is on the continent.....

not really as the air-fuel mixture is probably the same, the turbo provides more air that then requires more fuel.
Right! so when you up the hp on the ss version which gives you 25 extra hp just by means of an ecu re-map, does this mean you will borewash your engine?? Borewashing results from bad injectors, placing larger injectors in smaller applications, and faulty lambda sensors! That make your injectors **** fuel!

Re-mapping the entire ECU is completely different to faking the signal of the air temperature. Look at it like this;

The Abarth is like a glass of vodka and red bull mixed perfectly after much testing and tasting. It gives you a good time and doesn't taste bad either.

What you've done is like filling a pint glass 95% full of vodka, then adding a thimble of red bull. Sure it'll still give you a good time but it'll try and kill you in the process.

or by altering the signal from tempature sensor to make ecu think the air is colder, that is what this box you have bought does
This would be plausible if the lambda sensor was bad, and could not regulate by means of loop. The computer uses the O2 sensor’s input to balance the fuel mixture, leaning the mixture when the sensor reads rich and enriching the mixture when the sensor reads lean. So no matter what this box does, theres always a check mech to keep it in place. As i can see this dispute going on, and on. I'll be more than happy to admit defeat when my engine goes boom.(y)

I feel sure the SS upgrade would increase boost pressure (and fueling). TBH I would doubt much harm could be done to the engine in the time you're likely to have the car though, look at the cortinas and every other 70's heap of crap that ran VERY rich for probably 100,000 miles before finally having enough.

I salute your bravery good sir. Coming here with such an admission.

My attitude to such things as your powerbox is have fun with it. You only really truly know by trying it. If it works for you hurrah. If it doesn't, treat it as a learning experience.

The trick is resisting the temptation to moan if/when it goes wrong. :D

Just enjoy it!

It may go bang one day, or a tree may fall on it. Why worry, just make sure you keep the old bits, if you have a big smack in it then you will need to put the old bits back on before the assessor gets to you, and ditto for service schedules, as the warranty will be bust if they sus you.

I have always loved getting something more out of a standard car. As for the SS kit, I reckon it's a ploy from Abarth, as they know some people would not be able to resist that extra power (including me), so in standard form the ECU limits its potential. £2500 is too much for that extra 25hp.

Enjoy you car.

cant you get a remap on your ecu ???

Well by the sounds of it his car is modified. IIRC the standard car (assuming it's a 2 litre one) pumps out about ~120bhp or therabouts (my memory is hazy)
