Hi,

Does anyone know the difference in ride between the models? Seems it will be impossible to test drive them all.

I'm inclined towards the Sport model.

I've been a passenger in a stock Mini Cooper D and owned ( :( ) a Peugeot 206, if that helps to explain.

Best regards,
Astro500.

I test drove all three ;) ..don't see why you should'nt be able to.

I felt the ride on the diesel was very slightly better, but to be honest I did'nt notice a big difference, hence deciding on the 1.2. I was worried about the ride...as the guys on here will tell you :) ..but it really isnt bad, in fact I think its more cushioned than my Fiesta ;)

Ooh look, another new thread asking a question that's already been asked elsewhere :p

(I'm getting all confused now. Keep having the same conversation in lots of different places  )

Having gone for a passenger ride in Robs through the Eifel mountains, 4 up at night in the wet when I was drunk I can honestly say that his coilovers made his the best riding 500 I've ever been in :)

IMO all the standard 500s have a horrible, bouncy, nervous ride and the handling is poor. The 500C is much better. I'm waiting for the 2010 model year before I get one.

A slight exaggeration there methinks!

I was speaking with Michael Ward (AutoItalia) the other day and he was saying how bad the 500C rode

The Abarth (non esseesse) does ride better than the Fiat though (y)

The hatchback isn't horrible by any means. I do find mine a bit fidgety on its 16" wheels but that's merely a function of putting a SWB hatchback on wheels which to be fair are too big for it and I knew this full well when I ordered. My plan is to buy some nice Bilstein coilovers, that will sort it out. The 500c is much better IMHO in terms of ride quality and handling. Have you tried one yourself Rob? It's quite a difference though as I said in my other thread you can certainly feel the lack of roofage.

Nope I went to the launch but got distracted by the Abarth again, I'm a bit of a metrosexual but a 500C is just too camp IMO ...
Yeah I did feel a little conspicuous shall we say! In terms of ride though it's better than a standard hatchback. It rode bumps like a normal car really.

Hi,

Can you elaborate?

Is it a case of light car + large wheels = feel every bump in the road?

What is it like on its suspension? Is it springy or firm? Does it roll in corners or quite well behaved?

Best regards,
Astro500.

Well it's all subjective really. Last two cars I've driven have been both soft in the suspension dept on 15" wheels with tall tyres.

To me my 1.2 hatch on 16" wheels does feel all the bumps and seems a bit underdamped so the suspension seems to have a bit of trouble with control and you feel the back kinda pogosticking around. It's not horrible or dangerous but it does make it a little less comfortable.
