Hi,

Everytime we start our 500 (start 'n' stop, with blue&me), the radio comes on. It didn't use to do this, and we can't figure out how to turn it off permanently.

I thought it would perhaps have something to do with the autoplay setting (main | settings | media player | autoplay | off), but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Can anybody please tell us how we can stop the radio from coming on everytime we start the car?

in menu settings there should be 20mins or 00 (timer off) option.

I thought that was for leaving the radio on? We want to switch it off for good, until we choose to turn it on.

We turn it off manually before stopping the engine, and we don't have a USB stick stuck in. It still comes on by itself!

I'm hoping there's a setting somewhere to turn it off permanently, like it did when we first got the car.

But can I find it? Nope. Nothing obvious in the manual either.

Was hoping someone here might have already gone down this path and had the answer...

Mine does too. Turn the volume down to zero.

Kinda pointless having a start 'n' stop to try and reduce fuel consumption, and then leave the radio on all the time. There must be a way to turn it off, surely?!?!?

I must be reading this wrong. Do you want to he radio to turn off when the start stop turns off the engine?

What happens at the moment, is this:

1. Turn on engine
2. Radio comes on automatically (we don't want it on though)
3. We turn the radio off, by holding down the big power button until it goes off
4. When we get to our destination, with radio off, we turn the engine off
5. Later, turn on engine
6. Radio comes on automacially AGAIN (we still don't want it on)

I'm guessing it's not anything to do with the fact that the car is start 'n' stop (allthough judging by other things that have been happening, wouldn't be suprised).

We just DON'T want the radio to come on every time we turn the engine on.

We'd like to control when the radio comes on (and this may shock you) by pressing the on/off button on the radio. It's not a new idea, but not one our car is familar with yet. Or rather it was when we got the car, but it seems to have forgotten.

It definately should not turn on again after you have manually turned it off before turning the ignition off.

Do you have a memory stick pluged in and the setting in B&M to restart the song on start up. Im wondering if the car is getting confused and trying to find a song its meant to be playing not finiding it and just switching to the next input?

Im sure there is a setting in the B&M menu for resuming play back just cant remember its name - try disabling that too.

Hi Jim

i had the same problem with my smart when i got it last year - almost like the radio was possessed - after a lot of argueing the whole radio had to be replaced - not what you wanted to hear but its the only thing that fixed it went back to the garage about 6 times

Did once have a USB stick in it. In fact, the first time we put that in might have been when it started doing it.

Once we discovered that the music started on its own from the USB stick, I hunted down the "autoplay" option, and set it to "off". I think it's main/settings/mediaplayer/autoplay/off.

Didn't stop the radio from coming back on though.

I think I've sorted it now. Not sure how I did it, but it seems to stay off now, except when I press the power button!

I think it was something to do with having/not having a USB stick stuck in.

I think it fixed itself when I Put the memory stick in, and then turned the radio off. It's as if the USB stick remembers whether the radio should come on or not, and removing the stick (which I had done before) made it forget, or something.

Ok, so I've no idea what I did, but one of the many combinations seemed to fix it, so I'm happy :slayer:

Glad it's sorted. I think that what it might have been caused by is having a memory stick in, turning the car off then removing the stick. When it restarts it looks for the stick. I'm now in the habit of removing the media, turning off the radio, turning off the car....
