Following on from my disappointment today ...does anyone know what the position is if I were to cancel my order. I ordered it on 15 June and it is a 1.2 Lounge, the only extra is a sunroof.

Would I be able to cancel it ? I know I would lose the deposit. Also I was buying it on I Deal (finance) ...could I cancel that also.

...am just thinking of having a look for a used one to save waiting, was prepared, if not happy to wait 8weeks but the thought of waiting until Sept/Oct

You might get your deposit back because it's more than likely he can sell it fine. I ordered my old grande punto over the summer and it took 12weeks so know how your feeling. As long as your current car is ok i'd wait.It will be worth it. My old car was on its last legs at the time so made it worse.

Have already waited 8 weeks  ...and I am a woman ...hate waiting :D
i've waited 7 weeks and 2 days and i've hated every minute of it so far. our car died 10 days ago and we have to walk miles everywhere now (i like walking but not "that" much).
sorry about your order... i'm sure you could cancel because if it has a long enough wait on it they could sell it to someone else. you won't get your deposit back i don't think.
it'd be a shame to cancel though because you've waited so long already. :)

Come on Suzey - hang on in there .... it won't be long until it arrives ........ it's worth the wait believe me. Just a bad time to order because of the shut down in August .... luckily I ordered mine in June last year and it was one of the last cars sent out prior to the shutdown otherwise i'd have been in the same position as you are now. Be patient :) :) :)

NB : I cancelled an order for a Daewoo Matiz about 8 years ago as 12 weeks later it hadn't arrived even though it had been at the docks for 4 weeks of that! I got full refund.

Just ask the dealer where the car is. By the time a car leaves the factory a 'reference' code is known from the dealer and by searching to the fiat network can locate the car ie if it is on the way or at the customs etc.

If you already wait 8 weeks and they say you will have it sept/oct something is wrong.

PS of course u can cancel your order but imo start asking questions and demand from the dealer to inform you where tha car is.

Hang In its not that long really. I ordered mine end of MARCH it arrives tomorrow. I had thought of cancelling but glad I did not as I will get a brand new 500C exactly as I want it!! Nothing feels as good or smells as good as a brand new car.
Stick with it, save pay more off = get it cheaper or save up add toys = even more happiness. Remember good things come to those who wait.

I ordered mine the week before you, a 1.2 Sport, options to include 16" alloys and split rear seat. It arrived at the dealers yesterday, 9 weeks to the day after order. Now my dealer was on the ball and altered an unallocated order, to my spec so that may have sped things up. Struggle to think why yours should take so long. As others have said, keep the faith, become a pest to your dealer, it will be worth the wait. A long shot, maybe a dealer has ordered a car, similar spec to yours for stock or as a demo, that may arrive sooner?

I'd stick with your order. You may lose your deposit, your finance deal may be hard to cancel and the used values on 500's are really strong so you could end up paying almost as much as buying new.

Yeah - stick with it Suzey - especially if your current car has still got some life in it! It will be worth the wait eventually. Just look on it as a sign of what a popular well informed choice you've made!

You have to ask though? Did the dealer really order it when you were in the showroom. I got paperwork for mine giving an estimated build and date to arrive in the UK!

I'll still got to wait 4 weeks to collect mine though.:yuck:

Suzey,

a few years back I ordered a brand new car which came with a 3 month wait. About 2 months later, I went into the dealership and they had the identical car that I had ordered in the same colour but with a 1.8 engine instead of the 1.6 i had ordered, all brand new and sitting there in the showroom. I was so smitten with the car having seen it that I asked the salesman if it would cause too much trouble to have that car instead of mine, and he said "no probs we'll just transfer the order and stick yours in the showroom when it arrives". So I paid the extra for the 1.8 upgrade, and i had my new car 2 days later instead of a month later!

If I were you i'd go and see the dealer, explain to him that you really need a car ASAP. Explain that you are considering cancelling the order because of the extended wait, and ask if you can transfer the deposit to an unsold car thats already in the country. You might not get the exact spec you were looking for, but i'm sure you'll find something on the system that is good enough. Youre happy cos you get your car quicker, and the dealers happy cos he doesn't have a cancelled order.

When I bought my 500, I really wanted a 1.2. We checked what was already made and of the 30 or so 500s that were in the system as unsold, there was a 1.4 already in the UK, in the spec that I wanted and sat at the docks. So i compromised and picked up my car 2 weeks later instead of waiting months.

I know that what you are all saying is right and I should wait, but am so disappointed  ..not that I may have to wait a little longer, but that at 8wks it is still 'in production' Am waiting from another update from the dealer tommorrow and have also emailed the Manager at the dealership to let him know of my disappointment....not that it will probably help

It looks like from the order form that they will give you a deposit back if it hasnt arrived in 12 weeks. Also the I Deal paperwork is only Pre Contract Information, so doubt they could hold me to that....off to have a look and see whats around

Suzey, I would just hang in there too. Do your best complaining and make sure that they are doing all they can to get you your car!

I have to say it's a little weird with all these delivery dates... I ordered mine on the same day as you (15th June) and I'm picking my car up tomorrow. It's allready been in the UK 3 weeks.

Sorry to hear your still waiting, I hope she arrives soon!

all the delivery dates are odd...
ordered ours on the 20th june, it's in the country but don't know how long it'll take though.
good news on yours blinky... where abouts are you in the country, maybe mine would have been on the same transporter.

I'd rather ask for freebies than abort my car... sorry if that was a bit crude.

You've come this far suzey, just flutter your eyelids and fists and see what you can get to make the wait more bearable.

I guess the strangeness in delivery times is due to the options picked.

Well I've had the good news that my car has arrived! :D (sorry Suze! :( )

I am waiting for 1st September (partially for the plate and partially because I have no job till then) but they asked if I could pay ASAP. This worries me, he said it was for their targets etc, which I could see being right, but especially with loads of businesses going bust at the mo I'm definately not too keen on the idea... Opinions please? (I don't want to hi-jack so can start a new thread if needed...)

Do NOT pay for your car before you get it.
