Let me rephrase the title: "I gave an American a ride in my Abarth 500"

Went to lunch with this ESPN producer guy, and he absoluteley loved the car and wondered why these weren't being sold in the US. I didn't know what to say to the guy. I guess I should have said that it wouldn't survive amongst the "tanks" they drive there.
He reckons they'd go down a storm over there. He drives two BIG cars over there (can't remember what they were sorry!)

I originally thought I'd get the whole "How would you get a cow in this thing?" etc etc, but infact he really liked the small car, and the retro style that comes with it.

Sorry if I come across narrow minded, but it came as a suprised to me.:)

will be made and sold in the usa in the next few years(y)
read all about it at italiaspeed

I had an AMERICAN-SIZED girl in my car a couple of weeks back. Increased fuel consumption by 25% and cost me 20 miles worth of petrol. Yes, i worked it out.

The ACTUAL AMERICAN i had in the car said it reminded her of european cars. :chin:

I had an oldish American chap from California study my car, said he remembered the old Fiat 500 Abarths from times gone and how they used to beat Porsche's and the like on the tracks. He didn't have a spin, like most Americans he would have found it a bit of a squeeze i think! And i'm pretty sure the Fiat 500 and the Abarth will be sold as early as next year in the USA.

Americans are suprisingly aimeable to small cars - I used to post on a US "Rat Rod" forum (real trad stuff all big V8s and chopped & channelled etc ) with a much modded Riley Elf (classic mini with a boot) and i got more positive feed back and interest there than from the UK Nat Street Rod Assc - who deleated by build post as it was offensive to UK rodders!

the smart Yanks will love it just like they do that mini thing by BMW - just the thing to keep in the trunk of there Caddy incase it breaks down...:D

TBH I think this is only marginally better :ROFLMAO:

On all my trips to the US of A, two to New York(god I love New York) and one to Las Vegas(love that too buts its a wierd place, just sit down at a bar to find out) I have found only a handful of "euroboxes" a couple of New Beetles and also only a couple of Mini's. If the American people understood or had and appreciation of cars they would love the 500 but in all honesty not enough of them do to make a difference. V8 rules the USA because sadly for them they dont know any better!!!! A few do but not enough to make a difference. I know because I have taken the time to speak to them mainly on my pilgramage to Jay n Silent Bobs secret stash and to the REAL store from Clerks

No, not at all. Americans love little cars. My cousin who lives in Maine impored my old smart brabus roadster when I sold it!
