Technical Clutch failure @ 12,000 miles

I have a 1.2 500 Lounge November 59 Reg just done 18 thousand miles and the clutch went at the petrol pump! Towed into Fiat on a busy Saturday afternoon. The dealership have just rang and told me they need my authorisation to remove the gear box to see if they can claim under the Warranty but if they discover its not a Warranty and it wear and tear???????(Had my Fiesta from nearly 2 ie 11 years and the clutch was replaced just before I traded it in so surely this shows I dont ride the clutch? Had my Metro 6 years and that never needed replacing before it was written off in a RTA). Now have to decide if to risk a potential £500 cost for replacement or ask my own garage to collect and replace for £252 just incase? Not amused at all.

Re: Clutch failure

Early clutch failure seems to be a recurring theme with Fiat 500s; In the USA Fiat have a recall notice out for 2012-2016 Fiat 500 clutches (although I appreciate these are Mexico/US-built, rather than Europe/Poland).

My wife has just had a clutch problem today and is currently being taken home under breakdown cover. We'll be contacting our trusted family Fiat dealer on Monday for diagnosis and praying for an easy/straightforward spring/cable etc. issue rather than the fully monty described above by a73uk.

Has anyone else any recent clutch problem experience with Fiat 500s?

Ours has developed a problem before 30,000 miles and our 3 previous cars exceeded 130,000 miles on original clutches before being sold(2) or written off(1). Not good for Fiat's urban reputation for reliability... And to think I trusted...

The rest of this thread is from 2012 so can't really go by what's been out here
