Hello,

Just put a deposit down on a BN 1.2 Lounge, which was sitting at the dealer as result of a cancelled order. It has a good spec, with red leather interior. But not the climate control that I wanted. However, waiting three months or more swayed me to go for this one. Now I have to wait for the scrappage paperwork, that the dealer says will take 4 weeks (anybody know whether that is true?).

I have had cars with climate control for the last several years, before that I had cars with a/c. Those used to work with a button to switch the a/c on or off. So it was blowing ice cold until you froze, then switch off until you boil, then switch on until you froze again. Not ideal.

Plus side was that in a car with a small engine (I once drove a black Pug 205, not ideal in the summer sun) you could switch the a/c off for overtakes. Which might be relevant in a 1.2 500 :D

So my question is, does the a/c in the 500 exhibit this behaviour as well? Or does it get regulated with the warm/cold dial? The dealer was certain it did, but when pressed he didn't know the actual workings, whether there was a sensor for air temp that would kick the a/c on/off.

I have the non climate control A/C the temp is controlled with the hot/cold regulator and you can also switch it completely off with a button. I find it works fine, and don't miss climate control.

Not sure if there is a sensor on the standard a/c, I think it's either on or off, but either way it's pretty effective and can be controlled via adjusting the fan speed and the mix of air between windscreen, face and feet. Plus the retro style knobs really look the part!

You can still use the hot/cold dial with the aircon to regulate the temperature. I have climate control on my GP as it came with it (2nd hand), but wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there.

Every car i've owned with climate control, despite all the fangled sun sensors etc, i've had to regulate the temperature setting dependent upon my mood - its just as easy to turn a dial as it is to press a button to increase/decrease temperature imo.

:yeahthat:

More to go wrong tbh..

I purchased mine with AAC. I have had both over the years and tbh if it was a choice between having the car now with AC and waiting for a new order with AAC I would choose to take the car now.

Those with std AC will tell you how well it controls the cabin temp but I dont see the point of a dial if it doesnt do anything :D.

I've got A/C in mine and it's useful to be able to turn it off for overtaking! I've never felt the need for C/C myself, the temperature is easily regulatable with the control knobs.

The air conditioning is great! We didn't have AC in our Punto and it was very warm in the summer. We did think about ACC but you end up adjusting it as much as normal AC anyway.

CC is great in theory, but it involves added complication. If you want a cool car just set normal A/C to cold, and wait. When the car is cool turn the fan from 3 or 2, to 1, and that'll sort it. If you need it a bit warmer at night, turn up the heat a little and leave the A/C on to keep the humidity out. None of this is arduous, and I'll bet you'd be fiddling all the time with CC anyway, expecting it to do what you can do as well, or better, manually.

Save the money.

Gonna miss my old Fiesta, its been a star but will be nice to have AC and power steering! (Never mind such a gorgeous new car!)

I bet you lose 8bhp with the air con switched on,but hey so what, the cars so cool(y)
If your in hooligan mode you need to switch the compressor off:)

Have people noticed a drop in power then with the AC on  "The need to turn it off to overtake" WTF

I dont notice any....

there is a huge drop in power on my 1.2 500 when i have the AC on. It makes the car totally weak in power. But i dont mind because i am cool :D
