does anybody have problems when putting car into reverse, mine crunches, its a 2009 500 1.2 pop, with 350 miles! its ok when you leave your foot on the clutch for a few seconds...

thank you sir, this is what i do but wondered if it was a fault or normal.you know your stuff, cheers.

I always get the crunching and didnt know you needed to press the cluch for a second or two before selecting reverse  i have the 1.3

I have just been selecting 1st then reverse, it dont crunch then. Think ill try the holding the cluch next time :D

Yeah this is common on most cars. Every car I've owned crunched reverse if I tried to select it too fast.
Should try a 126, they have no syncro on 1st either.

My Alfa GT Junior only has syncro on 1st if you are chaning down into 1st i.e. from 2nd or 3rd. if you try to select it from neutral you can get crunches, so I've developed a habit of always going for 2nd and then 1st on take off which has transfered over to the 500 too:eek: My alfa 155 wouldn't always select reverse unless you had been in 1st before hand either, never crunched though and if you pulled lever it as the revs rose it would slip in anyway.
