Not really? If your a chav you get a nice big universal exhaust stuck on there hanging at a dodgy angle and a KnN bolted straight to your throttle body. Loudness of the car comes as a side to the increased performance and there isnt much you can do about that. 99% of mods can be reversed back to standard when you want to sell the car. One small improvement usually does lead to another but this isnt chavving a car up.

as matt said. there is a difference between a car crashing through halfords and proper performance mods.

My 20vt coupe was chipped and I am not a chav. Also my OH 20vt coupe had a milltek exhuast filter, hybrid turbo and chip(?) other than that the car was standard but the car performed better. When I had my chip I had better MPG ;)

So to say all mods are chavvish is a little closed minded ;)

It takes the same sort of mentality IMO. What's the point of reducing the resale value of your car just so you can make the car a little louder (or whatever). It would only cross the mind of a chav or a boy racer.

Also, from what I've seen, when a chav decides to make a small 'improvement' it leads to another and another and.... You get the idea ;)

it's the nature of some to strive for improvement while the majority are content with the status quo

there is a lot of enjoyment to be had in improving what you have, and is the very essence of what Abarth did all those years ago when he turned the basic 500 into a racing car (y)

Doesnt really bother me one way or another, can still view it when banned. My new strapline is better :)
Come on dude :) You seem an alright guy, no need to spoil for a fight :) Regardless of whether a moderator is right or not (not suggesting that anyone's right or wrong!!!!) you have to accept what they say :)

Back on topic :)

If one was to buy an air filter and an exhaust system, where would one go?

Thanks

MrB

Sometimes its not necessarily for performance improvement, just style changes, or personalisation.

Exactly. (y)

I don't get this personalisation malarkey..... I mean I could go and personalise my face by running into a wall, doesn't mean I'm making it look better.

If there is a part of a car which isn't particularly nice (see the new Punto Evo) I can understand changing bits to make it look better but the 500 looks fantastic as it is so by tacking on bits yes you are making it look different but you're also making it look worse. Unlike a lot of other cars these days the 500 has been carefully thought out and I just don't get why you'd want to change the look unless you wanted to make it look like an Abarth.

Think of it like wearing different clothes or wearing make up and having a different hairstyle. Punk, Goth, Emo, Mod, Rocker ...

People like to be different, even if by being different they all end up looking alike.

See that's the bit I don't get :p Ending up all looking the same as all the other people at the shows they go to. I don't mind modifications that increase performance like your 17" compomotives which I don't necessarily think suit the 500, but are excellent rims and I'm assuming are track only rims so looks aren't really the most important thing.

the thing is you are judging everyone by your own standards and views

people like different things

re the Compomotives, yes I intended on just having them for trackdays but they suit the car so well they stay on and I get lots of compliments about them; the diamond cut Grande Punto multispokes i bought to go on as summer rims are just gathering dust.

Its incredible!!!!!

When I first started this thread - I could never have imagined the real depth of technical knowlege and sound advice that would come flooding from all corners of our sceptred isle!!!

Because lets face it... if I had wanted tips on what styling I should or shouldn't have - does the 500's arse look too big in this, is that the right colour of rouge for my Carlos Fandgo Wheels blah blah blah...

I would have called Gok Wan!!
