Hi All

Long time since I bought a new car and obviously no rev limit or running in period is required with the car, but anyone got any useful advice for the first 1000 miles or so in order to maximise engine life / economy / performance? (1.2 petrol).

The general concensus is 'Just Drive', But I personally would take it easy if you plan on keeping the car for a long while with no problems

agreed, drive like your Gran and then steadily increase after 1,000 miles. Generally, good idea to let the engine idle for c.10 second before driving off (to allow chance for the oil to get to the top of the engine) and don't race it when cold.

drive it just like the guys at the factory, Portbury and dealership drove it - i.e. just normally

the engine will have already been bench tested at max load and revs

Get it trained to rev from the word go and you won't have any problems

Just have fun, smile loads and everytime you see another 500, give 'em a wave

What! I Never realised it was just for the first 1000 miles.

I am still doing that and I have done 8000 miles.

Perhaps that's why you're having DPF problems!

Doesnt the engine managment log over revs and presumably this data can be used against you if there is a warranty claim ?

depends what you mean as 'over revs'

the car has an electronic rev limiter, you can only over rev by downshifting from high revs (e.g. by mistake)

Don't avoid occassionally using higher revs - pottering about too much can cause "bore-wash", with poorly sealing piston rings.
Just drive the thing normally.

@ Chris123, whats bore wash

lack of oil in the cylinder bore. Sometimes caused by excess petrol "washing" oil away.
