I had Benny serviced at Westover Salisbury on friday.
The only problem I have is the "Safety check" was all ticked in the green column but my rear washer jets dont squirt (pipe disconnected), was he lying or just lazy?
They called me today to enquire about the service and was I happy, so I told the lady (Sally?) about the washer jet. She called back 5 mins later to tell me to bring it in and the work would be done for free if it was not covered by the waranty.
It's prob my fault because I forgot to mention the jet when I took him in.(n)
They even charged me for screen wash when I had filled the bottle the day before!
They did only charge me £126 for a low mileage service (13500 mls) though.

So; 7/10 for the techie work,
9/10 for the aftercare.

As you have found out, "consumables" are added to every invoice (usually a fixed amount) irrespective of amounts used. This is standard practice and it would not be viable to calculate the exact quantity used.

With regards to the obvious omission to check the rear washers there is no real excuse. All I can suggest is that, as the techs know the routine off by heart they tend to do the work from memory and then tick all the boxes or vice versa. Unfortunately, if there are any interruptions whilst carrying out this work then this might account for the oversight.

This is not an excuse, just a possible explanation and when I had a similar experience (not with my Fiat) I complained and the garage concerned booked the car back in for the whole inspection to be carried out again.

They told me that they would get another tech do do the work but I said I was happy for the original guy to do it again, fairly certain that he would be doubly careful this time.

I was in the motor trade for 25 years and unfortunately these things do happen and for all sorts of reasons.

Despite not even having half as much experience in the trade as Grim. I can also back up the fact that sometimes even excellent techs make little mistakes. The real test is in how these little mistakes are rectified. ;)

Grim - it seems you had a very positive experience from Westover Bournemouth so I'm hoping for the same experience when I take my car in for the first service in September. I've done exactly 8,500 miles as of tonight, with 2 months to do until service ..... and allowing for two longs trips of 1000 miles between them which are not usual I should be hitting 10000 miles by the time I take it in .... should I be asking for a small or normal service? Thanks. H.

Heidi, I would personally ask if you are within the boundaries for a low mileage service as I believe that the two year one is pretty comphrehensive and might involve valve clarance check/adjustment as well as repacement of spark plugs so you wouldn't really want to take a low mileage service at that stage.

At 10000 miles you will still get the all important oil and filter change as well as a pollen filter AKAIK as well as checks on levels, belts, lights, tyres, etc.

If you get the opportunity ask to speak to Grant (the DET) who is a really nice chap and ask his advice. Nothing against asking people at reception but you might get either a Renault or Peugeot person and they might not be aware of Fiat protocols.

Each time I have asked for a quick chat with him I have been able to with no hassle so you should have no problems, especially if you flutter your eyes and flash your .............. teeth. ;)

Ask as well if they can check to see if there are any software updates as a couple of people have mentioned poor starting in Winter was cured with an update on the 1.2 model.

They reckoned that Fiat hadn't released a touch-up pen in pasadoble red for the 500, even though I told them I had heard they had. I then decided to order one from Souls of Milton Keynes, which arrived within 2 days. Just had the impression that the one particular guy I had spoken to there about this, coudn't be bothered to find out.

So does that make me worth 10/10 :D lol

thanks for the reply Tony, I wasnt expecting such a comprehensive response!
I understand that things get forgotten about or accidently missed, my wife's comment was "has he missed any thing else?"
I am happy with the outcome (going back in on saturday for the washer jets), its just that this is my first ever new car and subsequently my first experience of main dealer servicing.
