I noticed a patch of water just under the exhaust which looked rather fresh had a look under and noticed the seam on the end of the exhaust was all rusted and that oily water is coming from it. So I'll be on the phone to the dealer Wednesday

is that sort of problem likely to be covered by warranty ? If its obviously a manufacturing fault yes but its so difficult to prove beyong reason doubt whent the part is rusty.

If they even think of going down that route I'll go blucking mental to say the least. As it will be the only car at 20K I know of thats exhaust went rusty so bad after a year of motoring there is actually a hole in it.

then again it is a Fiat.....

I have always found original equipment exhausts to last on average five years or more. When it became time to change them and fit an aftermarket type the difference between in quality between them was immediately obvious, the original was that much heavier due to the thicker gauge steel used.

A lot of exhausts have a hole pre drilled in them to allow the water in the rear silencer to drain out. This is to prevent them from rusting through prematurely from the inside and is sometimes mistaken for a fault due to the fact it does start to look ragged after a little while.

its normal fro water to come out the end of an exhaust especially if it s a new " modern car " with a catalytic converter - fitted to all car all makes from " K " reg onwards - basically the cat turns harmful exhaust gases into water - which condenses down from steam into water which comes out the end of your exhaust - tail pipe

Doesn't help only driving short distances either, doesn't give the exhaust enough time to evaporate the condensation.
