Making an offer to the dealer, please help!

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in the entry level 1.2 pop, and test drove one earlier today. I tested the showroom car and it is exactly what I want, colour spec and everything.

For that car, the dealer offered straight away£7995 inc mats and full tank of fuel. (List price is £8,375). I said I'd think about it and get back to him.

I definately want the car, but don't know how much less I should aim to pay for this showroom car, and how much to offer.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks!

I'm no expert ...but there does'nt seem to be much chance of getting money off 500's these days, sounds like a good deal to me. Have a good look over it and make sure it is ok and would think it would be worth having ...hope it works out for you

I'm a car salesman, and people knock me down (or at least try to!), every day of the week. As you can imagine, I was peeved when I couldn't get a bean off a 500, hence why I managed to secure a scrappage deal. Sounds to me that you done well for the dealer to OFFER YOU a discount. Has it been pre-registered?

I agree with both Suzey and Mollie. Its unheard of to get a discount on the 500. The best I did was using the scrappage and the Ivory trim 500 mats thrown in free. If you want it then it sounds like a really good offer. Is it pre-reg? Does it have all the options you want?

of course you can get discounts off a new 500 - you shouldnt say things like 'its unheard of'!! you might have to work at it a little more than some models, but easy to get £500 off a 1.4, and at least £300 or so off a 1.2.

have a look around the online brokers, visit a few dealers with these quotes, say the right things.

you'd have to be a bit lame to accept that you have to pay 100% list price now. maybe in the first few months after they launched, but not now.

Not down here in Devon you don't. The attitude was without question, retail price, order if you want to!

gib is correct, online brokers are the way to go as long as you don't mind a little travelling to pick the car up at the Fiat dealer whose offer you accept. Either that or you can have the car delivered (driven) to your home address FOC or on a transporter for £150.

Here is the deal I got on my car, (£12200.00 inc options at full retail). As you can see one dealer offered me £1 discount and the other £568 discount. Guess which one I accepted. Out of that I had to pay the broker £117.50 in fees (£100.00 + VAT) but still £450.50 discount ........ and that was just after it was released.

Why would there be discounts available since they can sell all they can make and some. Not like the mini where the factory has been idle for four months and fields full of them (an aquantance was offered a cooper-S for £11k a few months back....).

No discounts here, autoebid are now more than list price when you add their fee. I found one broker who would offer £380 on a 1.2 Lounge, but delivery was very vaugue and it wasn't worth all the hassle. If you wanted to buy on PCP, then their deal it cost you more than the £380 compared the the Fiat PCP deal.

Re: Making an offer to the dealer, please help!

I only managed to get ipod bits, and a key fob as freebies, and def. no discount, here at the dealers I asked.

Also I would have thought if you are still able to get a 'new' show room car, your doing pretty well, I rang about 8 dealers last weekend and they all said they had no 500's in stock, with the scrappage scheme they are going like hot cakes.. Our dealer had 2 in stock, and my sister in the end brought one of them, and despite it not being her 1st colour choice has been left with the feeling that she is exceedingly fortunate just to be able to get a stock car, so I wouldn't take to long to ponder.. someone might beat you to it..

Motorpark in Preston (and I'm sure their other branches)
www.motorparks.co.uk
will give £200 off but not if it is part of the scrappage scheme. I have to say that I went there and they were so bad on customer service I bought elsewhere, but if you take a print of the webpage then it might give you bargaining power with your local dealer? Hope that helps.

Re: Making an offer to the dealer, please help!

hi I'm curious to know about the autoebid. I'm looking to get an abarth and I fill in all the bits on the ebid site and it comes in with a great "price". tempted to ask them to see if a dealer is willing to sell me one at that price... but... If i say find me one and a dealer says "ok" do I then have to pay the £100 fee regardless if purchase or not? Some more info on this would be good... advice etc. :-)
cheers

Re: Making an offer to the dealer, please help!

we got ours in December and managed to get the side strips worth £80 for free, but that took some effort. Even had a choice of 2 dealers so tried to use that to our advantage, nothing doing

I agree though, they are selling like hot cakes, so why on earth would they discount? In fact I am almost getting fed up seeing 500s now, all of a sudden Hampshire seems to be full of them !!!
