The Polish-made Fiat Panda stormed Germany’s new-car sales table in March, moving on to become the fourth most-registered car model in the country last month. With 12,457 registrations (March 2008: 1,482 units), the Panda was ranked behind the market-leading Volkswagen Golf/Jetta, as well as the No.2 Volkswagen Polo and the No.3 Skoda Fabia.
Interestingly, the Fiat Panda was the leading model in Germany’s microcar segment last month, commanding a 28.1% share.
In Q1 2009, the Fiat Panda had a combined 16,466 registrations, thus claiming the No.11 spot in Germany’s most-popular car chart during the period..
Also built in Poland, the Fiat 500 microcar saw 3,264 registrations in Germany last month (+185%), which was good enough to secure the No.35 spot in the country’s most-popular car chart for the month of March. On a cumulative basis, the tally was 7,083 units registered.
Finally, the all-new Ford Ka, which is produced at Fiat Auto Poland’s Tychy site alongside the Panda and the 500, saw 2,528 registrations in Germany last month (+600%), ranked at No.49 in Germany’s most-popular car chart. During Q1 2009, the tally stood at 5,073 units.
During Q1 2009, Fiat Auto Poland built 115,659 Fiats, of which 112,344 were sold in export markets, along with a further 24,701 Fords.
