Noticed a little bit of stuttering around 1800rpm in my diesel last couple of days. Economy and (lack of) performance still normal though.
Any thoughts?

Not really. The engine cuts out when it runs dry and the fuel pump (the bit you're probably thinking about) is usually driven by the engine so it stops too. If you ever run dry in a modern diesel just put fuel in and then turn the car to ignition and then back a few times so the pump is primed and then start. It's when you crank over a diesel with dry lines that you start damaging it.Its REALLY REALLY bad to run a diesel on empty, it damages something that I cant remember the name of in your engine lol
But ye its bad! Rather keep filling it up when you get to your last mark on the tank

Well you needn't worry with a petrolThanks for that, I was just about to tell Mrs Notts that in future she had to fill her car up before the light came on! I didn't know that because I'm not a petrol head see.

If you keep the revs up in a diesel (even an old one) they don't necessarily need to sound diesely.the 1.6 diesel in the c4 picasso is just amazing, it doesn't even sound like a diesel when accelerating, so yes the french are particularly good at them
