I believe that Ed (exoticaholic) has bought one of these, there's a photo of one on the roof of a car in the Isle of Wight Fun Run thread!

Yes, that is quite spot on. I've started assembling it. Heavens above, it has come a long way since donig my first kit r/c kit in 1982! There is independent suspension, differential and even front-wheel drive.

I hope to have it completed by end of this month; I intend making it very close to 'the other 500'

How much is the body and a set of wheels just on its own? I had an M-02 Giulia GTA and the chassis, suspension and drivetrain were nasty. Friction dampers and bushings throughout don't make for the best R/C car. I wouldn't mind finding a suitable chassis and just putting the body on it.

I've got an old Tamiya 1/10th scale Escort Cosworth RC model that I want rid of.
Am I eligible for a 1/10th scale £200 scrappage allowance on the Tamiya Fiat 500?
:D

Just bought one of these!!!!!!
And an uprated bearing set, better dampers (oil filled not friction), all I need to do is find somwhere that can mix the paint to match my 500 now!!!
Cool. I think I might look at buying a body and perhaps a different chassis in the future. The M02 I had would have been better with ball bearings and proper dampers but the chassis still had way too much flex for my liking. Unlike my XX-CR with its carbon chassis with precisely zero flex :)

Update:

The chassis is assembled, and is up and running however, I haven't painted the body. A while spent on searching on the internet came up trumps in which I ordered a set of almost identical looking alloys from the retailer in Japan, who orginally sold me the Tamiya r/c 500 kit. The retailer, Jason's Store on eBay is very, very good.

My next two challenges are the white stripes especially with them trailing in a check pattern  and the side rubbing strips. I have already ordered a 3mm thick black perspex sheet - great care needs be taken when cutting them accurately.

I had the model at the IOW fun run and had to match the Cha Cha Cha Azure colour on our car - ended up having to hand mix it using polycarbonate airbrush paint.
However I have since found out that you can go to Halfords and have them mix a tin of Bumper Paint (This is flexible enough to allow the paint to adhere to the bodyshell with out cracking/flaking off, which is what will happen if you use normal car aerosol paint!!!!). Just need your paint code for them to mix it for you.
It is possible that you may have problems with this paint as it isn't the correct stuff, but it will work and it is better than trying to mix it by hand(y)

Good choice about the dampers & bearings - I did mine along with ball differential and a Tamiya Sport Tuned motor - plenty quick enough and race legal as well:)

Here's a few pictures of the completed r/c 500, perched on top of another 500 which obviously is mine.

I think it turned out well for now.
