Strange vibration can be heard when the clutch pedal is pushed down to change gear. It's much more audible at 2.5....3 thousand revs. Wonder if anyone knows how to cure this. It seems that all 1.3 diesel units do this and it is considered a trait of this engine set-up. My car is new and has only done 500 miles. Test drives with other similar models or different models with the same engine unit do the same. There was a suggestion that changing the clutch hydraulic slave unit for a Punto one cures it. Can anyone shed any light please.

Baxwalker is the man to talk to as he seems to be the only person to have had this sorted out. I don't think it was the master or slave cylinder that was replaced, but an additional "damping" unit fitted in the hydraulic line.

I have this noise on mine and it isn't obtrusive once gotten used to but I will be comparing Bax's car to mine on Sunday at the NFM2 just to see if the noise is the same as his before he had the mod. I have to say that I haven't noticed any vibration that both of you experience(d) though.

Apparently, it is being investigated in Turin but as it isn't safety related I don't think that there will be a recall via DVLC but more of a mod carried out at the dealers for customers who have complained if/when part has officially been "homologated".

As Grim says, I had this problem and was far from satisfied with it on a new modern car.

I pursued this through my dealer who called in a guy from Fiat UK. They fitted a part from another Fiat diesel model and my clutch is totally silent and vibration free. It transformed the driving experience and is now what I would have expected from new.

I still haven't managed to find the part number.

You can demonstrate just how bad this is to your dealer by holding the revs around 2500 in neautral and moving the pedal up and down - If I was musically inclined I'm sure I could have played the Italian National Anthem on mine :D
