Just reposting this as I'm looking for any advise from someone who may have lowered their 500 and the had to make some sort of suspension/steering warranty claim
Here is my original post from " which lowering springs "
I have a new 1.2 500 on order and would like to get it lowered from day one. Nothing drastic, probably using Apex springs as on Marks car. The dealer is prepared to fit them for me at a very reasonable £60, but made a big point of telling me that it would more than likely invalidate any warranty claims made in connection with steering and suspension. I had hoped that if they had done the fitting , that they would then take a more sympathetic view to any possible claims ( knowing that in reality such a small amount of lowering should have no adverse effect on anything )
Does anyone know if a dealer is obliged when making a warranty claim to Fiat to point out whether or not any mods have been made. My concern is that some problem may arise and they just say we told you so. Would I be better off waiting a month or so just to make sure everything is OK first.

only a few reported cases of steering and suspension issues, depends how lucky you feel really; has never put me off modifying a car and won't in the future:D

mine is lowered 60mm and the dampers were part of the upgrade too so the only bits left to fail are the suspension arms and drop links/bushes

cannot understand why the steering would be affected by lowered suspension either, more likely to affect driveshaft gaiters if running very low

as you mention - run the car in for a few thousand miles to identify any early failures, if the parts havent failed early they will likely last many years (known as infant mortality failure)(y)

To be honest if you make any modifications you need to just accept that any warantee claim even vaguely related to that mod will not be covered. And also that your insurance will be higher and your car worth considerably less when you sell it.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it - I've had the entire interior out of mine to add sound insulation and as a result just have to accept that I simply can't take it in to the dealer should it suffer electrical problems or rattles etc.

Take your choice but do so with your eyes open!
