I had a letter from the dealer I bought my 500 from saying that although it is 6 months till the first service make an appointment so they can use the "Havoline Performance Plus Fuel Additve" t improve the performance of my engine.

It says it will keep your fule system clean for up to six months!

Hhhm, the car is only 6 months old, although its done 10k.

So for the engine and fuele system to be in top performance it seems I have to take it in every 6 months for the fuel treatment, this wasn't mentioned in any of the servicing blurb!

I'm sure this is just a money generating exercise...., unless someone knows better and there is a fault with the fuel system they intend to fix while carrying out this treatment.

Any body had a similar letter?

It's an ad you can ignore it.
There are reports of this kind of stuff sometimes helping cars with injector problems. But if there's nothing wrong with the car and it is performing fine, It's a waste of coin.

use decent fuel (i.e. NOT basic supermarket fuel) that has a detergents package and there is no need for a fuel additive

all you need to do is follow the maintenance schedule in your owners handbook

My car seems to run less smoothly in general on supermarket fuel, I've only tried it once and won't be using it again!

yea it is false economy, Tesco 99 is the exception though - it is really good quality fuel and performs more consistantly in tests

very different to the 95 octane stuff and supplied by different companies
