Hey everyone! New member here from Australia.. I've been lurking for a couple days, but now that I'm seriously considering getting a 500 I thought I'd join :) I don't know a lot about cars, so bear with me :p

I work as a graphic designer in a car dealership and among others it also includes a Fiat dealership.. which is why I can get a bit of a discount. Basically, they found 2 cars for me:

Red 1.4 Pop, comfort pack, 15" alloys, demo with 3000km for $25,000 AUD (~11,800 GBP)
Orange 1.4 Sport, brand new for $28,000 AUD (~13,200 GBP)

Sooo, I don't know which one to get. I really didn't want to spend over 25k, and the only difference between the two are the sport seats, the spoiler and the stability/traction control I think.. I don't care for the first and am not sure if the latter is worth 3k. My boyfriend argued though that the Sport is going to keep its value better, just because it's a Sport. Is that true?

I'm not considering getting a 1.2 since there's a lot of highway driving and hills here, and I'd rarely ever go into the city.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to FIATForum.com
Your boyfriend is right regarding future value. It's common for specced up cars to lose the value of the added options with deprecation. So that a standard Sport will be worth more than a specced up Pop.
Although deprecation is never something I spent much time thinking about, wouldn't have bought a Fiat if I did. :D

Whether you should go past your own 25K budget is your decision though.

G'day!

Go the sport :) much better than the pop, dealers here can't even sell 500's so trying to sell a second hand one would be a disaster, so the more equipment the better :) There are lots of cars at dealers, it will pay to shop around.

The sport also has much better equipment than a Pop ie brakes, better seats :)

What part of Oz are you in??

hello  just out of interest what is included in the comfort pack (as we don't get it in england).
the brakes on the pop/sport/lounge are exactly the same, ( in the u.k ) there only different if you chose a different engine i don't know if this is the case in australia aswell but here are the uk set up's
1.4, has disc's all round
1.2, has front discs rear drums
1.3 diesel, has vented front disc's rear drums.

btw: Valentino will beat casey again !!! lol

EDIT: after looking on fiat australia you can only get the pop with the 1.2 (in the uk you can get any model with any engine) and the sport is the 1.4 so yes the brakes are different. i would go for the sport as you'r getting lots more spec for a bit more cash

...and there's me thinking I was the only one on here whose middle name is pedantic! :D

There are a few mixed up 500's in Australia.

The first few boatloads had a few 1.4 Pops and some diesel Pops and there were even some 1.4 sports with drums on the rear and no spotlights and a standard tail pipe. Just after I got mine they changed everything and dropped several colors. It's a little less confusing now.

There are even a few 1.4 non turbo Abarth's with a 5 speed around, left overs from the GP Celebrity race last year :)

All our Abarths have a five speed box but do do seem to have a lot of odd permutations.

Speaking of cars on boats, I drove past the Bristol docks the other day and there was a white 500 in the car lot in exactly the same place as there was a white one about 4 months ago! Do they get given specific spaces or is it just a lonely one that nobody wants? :(
