Luckily I haven't experienced the flashing mileage but I read many threads about it and it seems proxy alignment is a workaround but not a real solution. According to http://www.cinquecentisti.com/content/lampeggio-contachilometri-soluzione there is a software update (CD Flash 5.50.3 or later versions) for cars with chassis number higher than 165441. For the rest of the cars software will be released later.

If you speak Italian you can find many really up to date info on the mentioned site!

I hope this info will help you guys!

Official document
(no english version yet): http://www.cinquecentisti.com/documenti/56427.pdf

Update:
I just requested the English version of the document and it seems the guys are working on it so I hope we will have the docs soon in English!

Excellent! I had a proxy alignment done on my car a few months ago, but a couple of weeks ago it started flashing again:( It is ok when you stop and restart the car, but it happends from time to time. I read your thread on cinquecentisti and looked at the pdf files but like you I did not understand anything:). Hope they come up with an solution for us non Italian speaking people(y)

I've only had this a few times, and each time it's because I've put the key in and simply turned it straight round to start the engine. Now I'm in the habit of turning the ignition on, fastening the seatbelt, then starting the engine and I've not had the mileage flash.

Sometime its easier to adapt your behaviour than fix the problem.

This info has been available to dealers for a long time (and your recall post) in English:confused:

It seems nobody knows this info even though it is available for a "long time". As I mentioned my car is not affected but usually I share every important info with this community because you guys are so great not like in Hungary... Our community is so small contains 3 people only even though we have around 400 new cinq in Hungary but usually the owners are young rich kids and they know nothing about their cars. The other group of people who bought the 500 are "chicks". They have the cinq because it's so "cute" and that's it!!
I bought my car because my first one is a Fiat 600 (I still own it - 39years old) and when I saw the trepiuno concept in 2004 I fall in love. I think I'm really a big enthusiast of this car, just check my photo collection (~1600 photos) http://picasaweb.google.com/csaba.szalma

So If I see a new info somewhere else I will share you guys because you have the biggest and strongest community in the world (of course the Italian guys have bigger community but I don't speak even a word in Italian :p ).

That is also what I do, but, I can be travelling along and it will start flashing so the problem is not purely to do with the way you start the car.

That's what I do - never had a problem...

Never had a problem at all or haven't had the problem since you began using this method?

Ive had the flashy mileage a couple of times but Ive always been a strong proponent of the "wait until the car has done its thang and all the lights have gone out" method and I haven't had a flash in ages. Mrs Notts has and she assures me that she waited the requisite time, but I think the car just doesn't like her :ROFLMAO:

Mine was a 6 quid stick off ebay and it seems to operate ok, i do have 1 folder on it that has a couple of pdf files in it, but not had necrotising flashyitis for ages. I think its a bit of a software bug, not an indication of anything serious. They put a 1 somewhere that it should have been a 0. If it was built in as a warning about something surely either fiat or microsoft would know what it meant. OMG wot a rediculous thing to say! Ignore that :ROFLMAO:

Possibly, I have had issues where USB sticks contain non-mp3 tracks (files/pics etc) also cheap USB sticks can cause problems.

A reasonable explanation but in my case I have brand name memory (Kingston) and have ripped my MP3s from CDs so are top quality recordings. I also think that having different format files present should be OK as the ecodrive system (when active) makes use of the same stick to record it's data.

However, as Mr T suggests, cheap sticks, an MP3 track that has erroneous tags or poor quality/low bitrate recordings could partially be to blame, especially if other criteria are in play at the same time, eg. reversing at the same time as media player was changing tracks

I remember when the Sultan (ex littlepip) suggested that my rear parking sensors might be responsible and actually started a thread somewhere for people to post info on what they were doing when the problem started.

At least the problem seems harmless and is easily resolved in my case as next time the car is switched on the problem is gone.

I think its really funny that the act of reversing while a track is changing can make the car go wappy in some way!

I found this in the Fiat 500 manual, page 62, part 2.1:

It is recommended that owners do not indicate left while opening the drivers side window. This may result in loss of data from the ECU memory and unpredictable handling. The helpful message "My mind is going Dave" may be displayed on the multi-function display at this time. This issue can be dealt with by removing the underseat storage; therefore owners with the leather option are unaffected. Please contact your dealer if you experience this issue.

Do you know if this is specific to RHD vehicles only? :ROFLMAO:

ps. I do love short circuit.
