Hi

Had a quick search through the forum but couldn't really come up with a proper answer. I'm thinking about getting a new 500 but one of the things I need to use it for is for taking my bike to a few cycling events. I don't like bike bars as I don't want to block the rear view or cover the lights so prefer a bike rack I can put on the roof and need space for 2 bikes one each side. I had a look on the thule web site but couldn't find a proper answer. From reading here it seems the glass roof doesn't work with roof racks but I won't be getting that anyway. Any info on whether a bike rack does work would be great.

If they do how easy are they to fit ? I won't need it all the time so to make it look better I might look into removing it during the week

The 500 is a slim car, I would be surprised if you could fit two bikes on the roof, however I have found this on ebay ( I know you don't like them but may be your only option),

thanks a lot for the info. I would prefer not to use a bike bar at the back due to reduced via., The second two links look great, and seems enough to get a bike either side. Just need to do a few more sums and work out whether I would be better getting the new 500 or going for a cheaper second hand car, still can't make up my mind but that seems to be one question out of the way. Shame FIAT don't make a proper bike rack, seems they do for their other models and even make a ski rack for this one but no bike rack !!

Sherer,

I'm thinking of getting a Saris Bones 2 or 3 to fit on the back of mine. However its a 1.2 sport with a spoiler and i'm not too sure the Saris will fit cos of the spoiler. Watch this space as will be going along to Evans Cycles to see if it will hook up and not foul the spoiler. Personally I think it will work.

Hmm we were just talking about that at the derby event. I think it will fit but the straps will apply pressure on the spolier which may bend/detach.

The 500 is fantastic, it always makes me smile, the are bargain buys out there so go for it, where in country are you?

i'm based in London. Still not sure whether to spend half my money on an older car with a bigger boot that I can fit both the bikes in with the rear seats flat, something like a Focus, plus that will have extra boot space, or go for a new 500 which with the finance FIAT offer comes out at not too expensive. My main reason for getting the car is actually taking it to a few cycling events around kent, surrey and South East. I'm a first time buyer so need to factor in insurance costs too thanks to everyone for the help and advice so far
